    3. Lynda, My ggggrandfather was John Hodges b. 8-29-1784 S.C.,d. 3-21-1872 Calloway Co. Ky. and is buried in the Evans cemetery. Calloway Co. was Indian territory untill 1818 and that is when the first settlers came to the county. County records indicate that in 1822 he was one of the commissioners who constituted the first county court. In 1825 and 1830 he was Justice of the peace and was also Sheriff of the county during this same time period. In October, while I was in Calloway Co. I was given the desk that he used to hold his law books and paper work. Our family Bible says that he was married to Rebecca ----- and was the son of Isham and Mary Hodges. Around 1833 Rebecca must have died because I have a deed that is dated 1-28-1834 and it names Mary Hodges as his wife. In 1830, the census indicates that John and Rebecca had the following children. 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15 1 female 0-5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 15-20 I am only certain of the name of Elizabeth the youngest female who was my gg grandmother. She was born in 1827 and married Pleasant Ware Evans. I believe the names of the other children may have been John Jr.,William,Salinda and not sure of the other girl. Your William is not the right age according to the 1830 census but since he was 23 at the time, he could have been out of the house. On the 1870 census John and Mary are living in the house with Elizabeth, his daughter, and her husband Pleasant Evans. On the 1880 census, John has died and Mary is listed as the stepmother of of Elizabeth. I think that we are talking about the same John but the state of birth is not the same and that confuses me. I was born in Calloway Co.and return frequently to visit family and do research. I have many books of the county with tax records, marriages, and census records.I will be happy to check anything out for you if you like.
