    3. Theresa Hodge has done a great job on the Hodge/Hodges of Knox, Clay and Laurel Counties in Kentucky. You can find most of her work in the archives of those lists on rootsweb. The problem is that the records peter out when you get to the 1790s. It seems likely that this family is descended from Shadrack and/or Meshack Hodges from Franklin County, Virginia. They appear to have born in the 1760s. So James may be the son of one or the other. Look back in the archives for the threads on the Hebrew Children or Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego. Theresa has been working on the families for a while, and they are actually quite well-documented in the later years. The problem is that there are just so few records early on. Maybe if somebody scours the early court records and narratives they could come up with some additional information.
