Hodge had two deeds of Jesse Hodge's that proves his daughters as Jemima & Dianna. Comparing the 1810, 1830 & 1840 census; Jesse Hodge had 7 children. 1808 Jesse Hodge listed on the tax list Jesse Hodge had 100 acres of land he was taxed on in 1816 The land that Jesse, Edward & William B. bought in 1834 is situated along the ridge called Richland Knobs, and what is now called Knob Road and Perrin Hill road. This is slightly south east of Rutledge. Hi Sue, I believe we have corresponded previously on the Ambrose Hodge in Grainger Co., TN prior to 1804. As you probably know, there were two by that name. The elder Ambrose was born circa 1745, probably in Ireland. He married Elizabeth Barton b. 11/20/1751 Frederick, Md., in c 1765 in Franklin Co., Va. and moved to Washington Co., TN in 1774. He later moved to the Grainger area c 179x. His brother is believed (based on a letter by an early Tn. historian) to be Francis Hodge I of Sullivan Co. TN. [src. Isaac Barton's Bible, John Fain Anderson letter] Francis Sr. (I) had married Martha (Sally) Sproat, b. c1745, in Ireland, they came to Philadelphia, Pa. c1772 and settled in Lancaster Co.. From there he moved to Taneytown, Frederick Co., Md. and remained until c1778 when they moved to the Holston/Watauga area of Tn.. He had received a grant #847 for 500 Acres on the North side of the Watauga, now called Piney Flats. His log cabin was built at the head of Sugar Hollow near Pickens Bridge. He was one of the three first Elders of the New Bethel Presbyterian Church. Issue listed in Blountville, Sullivan Co., Tn.; AMBROSE, Francis Jr., Martha, and James. This younger Ambrose, son of Francis I and nephew of the older Ambrose, was born in Ireland c. 1766 and died about 1835 in Grainger. He married Elizabeth (Unk surname) about 1786 and moved to the Grainger area. Issue (may be others): William, Eli, Edmond (Edward ?) and Rachel. Rachel, b. 1/20/1793 d. 1/10/1853, was my G-G-Grandmother and married Robert Hodge (NFI) in Grainger ca 1816.
