" Personally appeared before me. JOSHUA HODGES, who being duly sworn, maketh oath and saith that some time in the year of 1785 as near as this deponent can recollect he obtained from the land office of the state of North Carolina as brother and heir of HARDY HODGES a warrant for 1000 acres of land #15, which this deponent afterwards transferred to his son JOSEPH HODGES, this deponent further saith that he obtained the said warrant from that State of N.C. in right of his said brother HARDY HODGES for the military services of the said HARDY HODGES during the revolutionary war and that this depoent is the elder and only surving brother of the said HARDY HAODGES.
