Don't remember exactly. I am certain that he lived in Itawamba Co. of MS from about 1841 or thereabouts until he died after the 1860 Fed. Census for Itawamba MS. After the Civil War,(about 1868) his wife leaves MS for Johnson Co, TX with her son, Dennis Newton Hodges and wife Sarah Jane Walker with about twelve (12) wagons of friends and/or family from the Itawamba area. This fact is published in the "History of Johnson County (TX) in the information furnished by Betty Burr (a former Pres. of the TX state genealogical assn.) in her article on "The Walker Family". I do have a copy of the Civil War service record of Lt. D.N. Hodges who served in the 10th MS Cav. Also, in that outfit was his brother Edmund Hodges who was a Sgt. Dennis was a POW at the end of the war and was incarcerated at Beaufort, SC. It is said that when he returned home with torn and tattered clothing and long beard, the occupants of his home were afraid and ran and hid in the chicken house and/or the barn because they did not recognize him.
