LANE (Janie Warren HOLLINGSWORTH) did. I'll also check on whether Jarvis JACKSON d c 1815 (husband of Catherine HODGES b 1759 NC d c 1842 m 14 Mar 1792 Effingham Co GA) was a blacksmith as was his father (according to a deed of 1785), Joseph JACKSON of Effingham Co GA (whom you identified as a state legislator 1785-1789) -- see the GenForum and JACKSON-L messages below. Bulloch Co GA Will Book E/8A (1854-1861) p 219: Will of Nathaniel HODGES dated 30 Aug 1855. Daughters: Mary E. Judy Canant _________________________________ Jackson Family GenForum Joseph and Jarvis Jackson of 18th c. Georgia Posted by: Charles S. Miller Date: April 19, 1998 Looking for information on ancestry of Joseph Jackson (b. c. 1730?, d. after 1800) lived in Wilkes, Effingham, Screven, Camden County, GA. Had the following children: Joel, Jarvis (d. Bulloch County, GA, early 19th c.), Josiah, Ursala, and Joanna or Johannah (m. John Shears Olliff, R.S., resided Bulloch County). Joseph Jackson was a member of Executive Council of GA, and elected delegate to state ratifying convention of US Constitution. He was also a Justice of the Peace in Effingham and Screven County. How, if at all, is he related to Jackson family with similar names of Bedford County, VA? _________________________________ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 From: "C. S. Received land grant in Effingham County, GA, in 1780's. Served as Justice of the Peace, Governor's Executive Council, delegate to state constitutional ratifying constitution as well as U. S. Constitution state ratifying convention. He deed his 900 acre plantation in Screven County, GA, to his children in the 1790s, and moved to Camden County, GA, where he refused to accept and/or run for office, presumably because of age. Because of the similarity of given names, I have tried to connect him to Bedford County, VA, Jacksons but it's not a fit yet. His children: JARVIS JACKSON, J. P., Bulloch County JOHANNAH JACKSON, m. In the Huxford books, it mentions Joseph Jackson and Jarvis Jackson. It also says (and I'm not sure which Jackson they are referring to) ... "Mr. Jackson was granted land in Effingham Co, GA, October 13, 1785, so it is assumed that he moved to GA prior to that date. He probably lived in tat part of Effingham Co that was cut from Screven Co. Joseph Jackson, a blacksmith, bought 100 acres of land in Effingham Co December 19, 1785, and again bought 36 acres on Sept l, 1792. By December 4, 1802, he moved to Camden Co where he sold 166 acres in Screven Co to James Caswell as a resident of Camden Co. Mr. Jackson was on a voting list in Camden Co, Oct 3, 1803. He was defeated in a race for State Representative in that election. He was excused from Jry duty March 3, 1806 being over 60 years of age. Joseph Jackson's wife was named Sarah, but her maiden name is unknow. They were the parents of the folliwng children, who were named in the deed of gift. 1. Johannan b. 1755 md. John Shears Olliff 1785 lived in Bulloch Co d. 12/2/1801 2. Jarvis b. 1758 m. Catherine Hodges 3/14/1792 in Effingham Co. 3. Mary 4. Ursula md. Evan Harvey of Baldwin Co. 5. Joel 6. Josiah Joseph Jackson does not appear in the records after 1806. He probably died about 1810. Jarvis Jackson, son of the subject, took the 1810 Censuf of Bulloch Co, and was a Justice of the Inferior Court there in 1812. He was a very influential citizen of Bulloch Co until his death in 1815."
