3. Kevin - Your Charles was 107 years old when he died, if your dates are correct. If that is correct, there should be some mention of his death in a local paper or county history. Williamson Co., TX is adjacent to Travis Co. where Austin is the county seat and the capitol of Texas, so perhaps the Austin papers would have carried the information about your Charles Hodges' death. The first newspaper in Texas was 1813 Nacogdoches (East part of the state). In 1835, the "Telegraph & Register" was pub- lished in Galveston. In 1850, Texas had five tri-weekly newspapers and 29 weekly papers with a combined circulation of 771,524 copies. I will see if Clayton Library has a county history with any info on your Charles Hodges the next time I go. At 07:45 PM 4/20/1999 EDT, you wrote: >I am researching the family of Charles Hodges (1782-1889). According to >census records he was born in TN. I find him in Scott Co., AR in 1840. 2. In a message dated 99-04-21 11:13:53 EDT, you write: << In 1850, Texas had five tri-weekly newspapers and 29 weekly papers with a combined circulation of 771,524 copies. >> Hi Gerry, This caught my eye and I wonder if you have a URL where I can get the names of the newspapers? I'm interested in several counties in the northeast part of Texas beginning around 1850--Clay, Cooke, Grayson, Kaufman, Titus, Wood, et al. I'm researching descendants of William Cayson Hodges of McNairy County, VA, including my gggrandfather, James George Hodges and his brothers and a sister. One of J.G.'s sons, George Dallas Monroe Hodges, my ggrandfather, married Caroline Jones of Cooke County. I'm also researching the Brown family of Clay Co. and the Patton family of Kaufman Co. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jim Hodges

2. Gerry Hackley
3. Dennis - I have found an Ann K. Hodges in my HODGES families. Her birth date is 15 Sept 1820 and d. 1891. I have no marriage date but one spouse as far as I know was Adam Powell. She was the daughter of Charles Hodges b. 18 Jul 1797 in TN m. Mary "Polly" Milhous 27 Jan 1816 in MS Territory maybe (Madison Co.?) d. 22 Jun 1856 in Itawamba Co., MS Rev. Charles Hodges was ordained in the Primitive Baptist Church of Alabama 21 June 1831. He was a member of the organizing presbytery of the Enon Primitive Baptist Church, Itawamba Co. in 1835. Charles and Mary "Polly" Milhous were the parents of three sons and five daughters. Rev. Hodges died 22 June 1856 and is buried in Bourland Cemetery in Itawamba Co., MS. Mary was living with daughter Elizabeth in 1860. She is probably buried in Bourland Cemetery, but there is no marker. Mary "Polly" Milhous may have been born about 1794 in Camden Dist., SC. Other children of Charles Hodges & Mary "Polly" Milhous were: James Hodges b. 1816 Elzira Hodges b. 1818 Ann K. Hodges b. 15 Sep 1820 d. 1891 Mary Jane Hodges b. 1823 spouses: james M. 2. There are many sites which have answered questions about copyright laws. Ancestry.com - Online Genealogy Journal of Online Genealogy - Promoting the Use of Computers and the Internet i National Genealogical Society and maybe Cyndi's List And I believe I read about copyrights on the Library of Congress website. Most sites have postings about copying their material to another site. But you are encouraged to link to them or to pass the link/URL to someone else. It's very easy to find copyright answers on the Web if one wants to.

3. The following is taken from Family Tree Maker's Family Archive World Family Tree CD booklet: Here are some examples of information that you may share: Information about one neclear family. The names of all individuals with the same first or last name, living in an 'exact' county in an 'exact' decade. Complete information about one individual on the CD. Note that the examples listed above are all very 'specific' pieces of information. The key thing to remember is that it's OK to use your Family Archives to help someone else quickly fill in a small blank in their family research. But if they want to rely on your CDs for anything more than a name here or a date there, they should buy their own copies to use. What kind of sharing is a violation? Systematically making a CD freely available to more than one person at a time. Systematically making large parts of a CD's contents freely available to others. Uploading all or part of a CD's contents onto an electronic bulletin board. Circulating a printout taken straight off the CD. What "larege part" of a CD is too much to share freely with others? The whole CD.The results of more than two or three blanket seraches: all or most records that match a search for name, date or birth, or other generic characteistic.
