Tim, You mentioned that you have over 3,000 names. Is this right? If so how many do you have in the Lincoln, Pike & Copiah Counties, Mississippi? I am looking for three brothers named: Wilfurd Hurley? Hodges died in 1934 in Hazelhurst, Copiah County, Mississippi Theodore Hodges born 7 Jun 1884 died Mar 1971 possible in Hazelhurst, Copiah County, Mississippi Zeb Hodges born 20 Feb 1896 died Sep 1985 in Hazelhurst, Copiah County, Mississippi My grandmother daughter of Wilfurd H. says that they were all born in the Bogue Chitto, Lincoln County, Mississippi area. If you have any information that would be extremely helpful as these Hodges are very difficult to find. Duane Hill

I'll take a guess and say it meant "Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks". Like I said, only a guess. Thanks for the reply Tim.
Is anyone out there related to any of these people? Bertram Enterprise, Thursday, February 10, 1927 Mr. C.C. HODGES DIED WEDNESDAY AT HOME OF DAUGHTER At 5 o'clock Wednesday morning, February 9th, the Death Angel came and claimed another one of our pioneer citizens, Mr. C.C. Hodges. He had been sick for several weeks, and his death was not unexpected. He was at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.A. Reynolds, having made his home with his children for the past few years. Mr. Hodges was born in Scott County, Arkansas on March 19th 1844. At the time of his death he was 82 years, 10 months and 20 days of age. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served four years in the Confederate Army with bravery and distinction. He was classed as one of the boy soldiers, having volunteered his service when he was a young boy. The Confederate rank is fast thinning, and only a few are left now to answer the final roll call. He was a splendid citizen, and liked by all that knew him, having many friends here as well as elsewhere who will regret to hear of his death. He professed religion many years ago, and lived a life that was without reproach. Decedent came to Texas during the Civil War and continued to make his home in Texas. Most of his life was spent in Burnet and Williamson Counties. He lived several years in Travis County also. He was united in marriage in 1866 to Miss Ann Askew at Georgetown, and to this union six children were born, three girls and three boys, two of the boys having died many years ago. The children who survive him are: Mrs. H.A. Reynolds of Bertram, Mrs. Will Klose of Ogle, Mrs, F. W. Pearce of Georgetown, and Mr. J. A. Hodges of Bertram. Mr. Hodge's wife died about ten years ago. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bear Creek Cemetery. The Enterprise extends condolence to the bereaved family.
Hi All, I hope you will allow me this opportunity to ask a guestion that is not about our Hodge(S) Family, although I started out seeking Hodge(s). This past Sunday I was in a cemetery looking for some Hodges' graves when I came across something I have never seen in my life time. I sure hope I don't offen anyone with my ignorance but I felt comfortable seeking your knowledge. I came across an area in the cemetery that was about 12 feet square. It was enclosed by a short cement wall about 6 or 8 inches wide and about the same in height. In the center of that area was a tomb stone with only a single name. Surrounding that stone were flat metalic Brass markers about 18-20 inches square. These markers were in very neat rows with about a foot between each one. These markers had the name and dates (I assume birth and death) or just names of the living. I also assume that those buried there were cremated (if the size of the markers meant anything). Up to this point nothing is questionable; however, about 5 or 6 of these markers had something else. A quarter inch black metal rod was stuck in the ground at the top end of the marker. Attached to each rod was a five pointed black star. Each star had these letters; P.O.E. Does anyone on this list have any idea what the letters stand for or why the graves were marked as they were? I would love to learn the answer. Thanks for your time and trouble. Frank

Hello I am trying to locate any information on my Hodges ancestry. Below is all that I have thus far and hope that if someone has further info or corrections, that they please get in touch My great grandmother was Effie G. Hodges, born in Pocahontas County West Virginia in 1902. She was the daughter of Edward A. Hodges born in 1880 in Pocahontas County and the husband of Mary Rodgers. Edward was the son of Elijah Hodges who married Sabina Vaughan in Greenbrier County West Virginia. Thanks Alison

Many of the Methodist records are in the archives at Albion College in Albion, MI. I also have a two volumn set of Michigan Methodist records that I would be happy to check and see if they show up in the index. I'm trying to locate information on where my grandfather and his brother lived after their mother died. My grandfather was 5 and his brother was 6 in 1892 when she died...they show up in 1910 census, but so far I haven't located them in 1900? My general question is about what some of you have found in tracking similar situations. How far away from the homesite might they have gone? And my feeling is that the more you know about the collateral families, the easier this situation would be to discover. I've had one youngest daughter go to live with the family of her older married sister, a couple of families where the children were in orphanages after their father died or deserted the family. I found the two brothers mentioned above living with a brother of their father in 1910. Any other types of experiences you've found in your research would be of great help to me.. Thanks. Connie

I am researching a Hodge line from Prince George's County, Maryland. The father in the line was Nathan. His father is reported to be Nathan or Nathan Nathaniel Hodge. If this is correct, it should go back to a John. I can not find proof of the last two lines. Do this names show up in your records. Thank you. WJPteach@AOL.com
