    3. Hi Julie, I don't have much more than you do on this family. Have a few records from settlement of Isham/Isam's estate. Also some records from when Edmond was declared incompetent. It is assumed that Edmond's father was named Edmond also. Don't think anyone has proven this yet. 1. [HODGES-L] Edmund Hodges - Sevier Co., TN
    2. A couple of final notes on this Edmund. There are two files in the 1998 archives that give more detailed information on his family (search 1998 with "Edmund and Hodges and Sevier"). Ken posted the information from a chancery suit that gives a lot of data on his descendants in the next couple of generations. Ken's work also tells us his ancestry. Edmund's marriage to the daughter of Aaron Pearson establishes that he is the Edmund who was a son of the Isham Hodges of Marlboro County, SC. Ken noted this in the abstract he posted from the court minutes of Marlboro County. It says in the notation to Isam Hodges and Aaron Pearson being appointed to a grand jury: "It is interesting to note that Isam and Aaron appear together for the first time just nine months after their son and daughter's wedding." I apologize if this was clear to everybody else but me, but I am happy to connect up these branches. i feel like I have a lot more information on the descendants of Isham Hodges. Now can someone explain his ancestry? Bob Hodges

    2. Hi...In answer to those who responded to my posting about locating information on railroad workers I'm posting the following locations. I'll answer individual questions separately. I'm not certain about the extent or if there is information on casual workers. My ancestor applied for retirement benefits even though his work history was sparodic and I received a monthly summary of his employment from about 1906 through 1958, information about his three marriages, and some non rr related work history. I was able to track him across the US and even have a possible "alias" to check out. Hope this helps some of you. connie Web site for the Railroad Retirement Board....check out regional office addresses to find one closest to your ancestor's location and then write a snail mail and they will check for his employee records. http://www.rrb.gov/ This is the address I used to request a search...It can take from 30-60 days to complete and the search fee is not refundable, even if they are unable to locate the information requested or the file has been destroyed. I think the fee was $15 or maybe a bit more. By the way, the social security number of my ancestor was not the one that shows the holder to be a railroad employee, so even though he was not "career" they did have extensive records for him. 3. Who can compare the Hodges in Cotton to Kaolin, a History of Washington County to the Hodges in Lela Hodges' letter about the story of the Hodges going from NC to Sc, Ga. and Fla. If we study the Davis ged-com (thanks Diana) and notice that Richard has John Robert Sr. Willliam Henry Henry (which all match the Cotton to Kaolin story) In Lela's story could the Richard from above be the father of John Robert Sr. William Henry Howell (but a missed translation and it was suppose to be Henry) The Lela story and the Cotton to Kaolin are too similar NOT to be the same people. It's just a thought to check. Annette Haddock ck

    1. [HODGES-L] Isom Hodges (1823-1884) Sevier County, TN
    2. Kirby's letter says this about Isom: Isom or Isham Hodges was the thirteenth child born to Edmund and Sarah Pearson Hodges on Spet. 22, 1823. His mother Sarah died the following day and Isom was wet-nursed by a negro slave. The negro's name was Dullancy and she was given her freedom and some land in the northern part of Sevier County near what was later to be Isom Hodges farm. This negro lived to be very old and was proud of the fact she nursed my Great-great grandfather. She was a great story teller and loved to tell his (Isom) grandchildren how she raised and nursed him. Isom married Elizabeth Ellis November 23, 1843. Their children were: 1. Mary Jane b. 7/8/1847. She married S.W. Cowden. 2. Mahala C. b. 5/6/1852. She married Sam D. Henry. 3. William Henry b. 2/26/1855. Married Parthenia Clementine Underwood. This is my Great grandparents. 4. Joe E. Hodges b. 7/6/1862. Married Nola Brewer. 5. Nannie b. 1864. Married a Sherrod. 6. Minnie b. 1866. Married Ollie Underwood. All of these people are buried in Sevier County Tennessee with the exception of Minnie and she is buried in a nearby town of Morristwon Tenn. Isom Hodges was a strong Confederate sympathizer while his older brother was a Captain in the Union army. Isom hauled supplies to a rail head in Strawplaines Tenn. and was said to be a spy on troop movements in that area. He was hunted under the threat of hanging by the Yankees. This area of Tennessee was occupied and re-occupied several times and it is said Isom would always disappear and reappear when the Yankees left. He had a deep hatred for the Yankees until his death in 11/16/1884. His tombstone spells his name Isham.

    3. Dear Judy, Thank you so much for Maxine's information. I called her, and I was delighted that she answered the phone and that she is well. The explanation for her cyber-disappearance is that, as she put it, when she returned from church one Sunday evening, she discovered that someone had decided that they needed her computer more than she did. Much like me, she did not have all data backed up. When she gets back on line, she'll let us know. I'm sure at that time she will need the help of us all to restore just some of her COLSON, HODGES, JARRELL, WARD, YEOMANS, etc. files. 2. Good morning Hodges Researchers, I was wondering if someone might have the Hodges separated in groups. If so can you give me the eldest ancestor of each & where they originated & came to in the states. I have James Alexander Hodges born abt 1820 in SC. I have info on his children but can't figure out anything else on him. His children were in MS then to TX. Thanks so much, Brenda Hester Bhester237@aol.com

    2. Gerry Hackley
    3. My GG-Grandfather was Dennis Newton Hodges (b. 1831 in TN) who later lived in Johnson Co., TX & Stonewall Co., TX. He also lived in Itawamba Co., MS and married Sarah Jane Walker there in Guntown, Itawamba Co., MS. Dennis served as a LT. in the Civil War in the 10th MS Cav as did his brother, Edmund and perhaps other brothers as well. The father of Dennis was Isaac Hodges & mother Rebecca McClain (of perhaps McLane or some other similar derivation). I am certain that Isaac had a brother named Edmund or Edmond who served in the War of 1812 and died in Hardeman Co., TN. I am not certain of the names of their children; but since your family had names similar to mine, I suspect that their may very well have been a connection. Isaac is believed to have been born in Abbeville Dist. of South Carolina around 1790; however, the 1790 census for that area shows John Hodges, Drury Hodges and Abel Hodges. The John line is well documented and I have somewhat followed the Drury line to Alabama and Missouri but the Abel documentation is more difficult to trace. I am curious as to your thoughts and/or comments? 2. Dick & Pam Hodges
    3. I am posting in hopes someone new might see this. I am looking for any information about Thomas Hodges, b. October 29, 1811 in Huntington County, PA. Died October 10, 1886 in Meredosia, Morgan County, IL. He married Elizabeth James and had 5 children. He then married Susan Burrus and had 8 more children. I am in hopes that with this many kids, someone may have an obit or picture of him. He appears to have been very wealthy for his time. However, there don't seem to be any existing local papers where archives would have been kept. Thanks, Dick Hodges crh97@midwest.net
