Did you find any information on a Redding Othaniel Augustus Hodges b. 1790? Some of his family went to Marlboro. Possibly an Abel Hodges could be related. I've seen the name Isham in a few books I've used and will look for any clues as to brothers. Can anyone help in sorting these Hodges? I'm trying to identify and get more accurate ages for them before attempting to group them. A listing of some of the earlier (prior to 1800) Hodges in Surry Co., NC. Ages are assumed by other info, person identified where possible with spouse's name. No attempt has been made to group them by family at this stage, although the common use of these names in future generations indicates some relationship. Hi Mike, Some of this info came from descendants of Drury, Wayne Langston and Wayne Hodge. Birthdates, when only the year is stated, are derived from census reports with the understanding that there are the usual census inaccuracies. Franklin Co. was formed in 1786 from Bedford and Henry Co.'s.. Henry was formed in 1777 from Pittsylvania which was formed in 1767 from Halifax. I'm not sure where Wayne found the children's births in Halifax. Many times the early settlers would go to the nearest county seat whether or not they actually resided in that county. I show Anderson as the 6th child of Drury and Diana. VI Anderson b. 1808 m. 11/25/1831 Frk. Co. sur. Joel Hodges sp. Nancy Hodges b. 1810 in Halifax Co., Va. I need parentage of Josiah Hodges born 1796 .Married 28 April 1825 to Nancy Hart at Pittsfield, Maine. She was the daughter of John Hart and Betsey Gullifer. Their chidren were Thomas, John, Louisa, George, Benjamin, Elmira, Charles. How is Abigail Hodges related to this couple? Abigail married Moses Crocker in Bangor, Maine, on 30Sept 1841. She was born circa 1821-1826. She and Moses lived next to Josiah and family in the 1850 census. Moses and Josiah bought land together in Bangor. Any help would be appreciated. Joy Jordan

Thank you for your help. What I am thinking is that marriages between Cherokees and whites were not recognized or legal; so, perhaps this is the case with Jackson. All his land purchases (and census) are registered as Jackson. Thanks.
