Looking for any info from someone with the Halifax Co. Va. Hodge/Hodges/Hoge line. I have found an Achilles Whitlock Hoge Listed as being born in Halifax Co. Va. about 1821. Relative listed as Luacine Hoge Peery. Anyone out there with any help or additional info ?
Thanks Diane.
Thanks so much for your responce to questions concerning Alexander Hodge. The fact that Alexander had a Pa Connection encourages me even more to find out about Alexander's brother Francis Hodge as Francis Hodge son, James Hodge born 1774 in Pa. Do you have anything on the parents of Alexander Hodge? Thanks so much for sharing. Gale
Hi Joyce: Thanks for your return post pertaining to Alexander Hodge. The Alexander Hodge that I am looking for is a brother to my Francis Hodge who come to Middle TN in about 1780 and died here in 1818. I have the entire line forward but cannot figure out who his parents were or where they come from. Francis Hodge had a son James who was born 1/21/1774 who also died here in Davidson County, TN - Anything you may share on your Alexanders will surely be a help to me. Thanks for your answer and any help you may give. Gale

Most people do not associate Texas with, the American Revolution. There are, however, 42 known soldiers of the American Revolution who came to Texas and are buried here. In addition to soldiers who gave their services to the new United States in the east, the Sons of the American Refolution (SAR) now accepts members whose ancestors served in the Spanish military under Gov. Galvez in New Orleans. They also accept members for the patriotic service rendered by vaqueros who drove cattle from Texas to Louisiana to feed the soldiers in Galvez military forces. The Daughters of the American Revolution are expected to follow the lead of the SAR. In the future, the graves of the supporters of Galvez may become known and documented adding to the forty known patriot graves in Texas. The names of the 42 soldiers of the American Revolution buried in Texas are: Montgomery County: Zachariah Landrum, Owen Shannon. Walker County: Mark Lott Manning, James Tinsley. Harrison County: Bailey Anderson, William Delafield. Nacogdoches County: Benjamin W. Anderson, John James Cedar, Warren Davis, Bernard Dortolant, Isaac Simpson and William Sparks. Red River County: Benjamin Clark, James Potter Collins and David Strickland. San Augustine County: William Eakin, William Gates, Able Allison Lewis, Charles Polk, Edmond Quirk and Samuel Thompson. Travis County: Robert Rankin, Stephen Williams. The following 19 soldiers are the only known American Revolutionary War Soldiers buried in their respective counties. John Abston is buried in Collin County. James Adams in Orange County. Joseph de la Baume in Austin County. John Baptiste Chaison In Jefferson County. Aaron Cherry in Liberty County. John Dollarhide in Angelina County. Alexander HODGE in Fort Bend County (*about 4 miles from my home) Thomas Blair Hogg in Cherokee County. Thomas C. Holmes in Newton County. James Lemmon in Dallas County. John Parker in Limestone County. William Smeathers in Brazoria County. Samuel Smith in Rusk County. John SoRelle in Fayette County. Jeremiah Stell in Lamar County. James Thompson in Morris County. Richard Tice in Washington County, Evan Thomas Watson in Bowie County. Benjamin Wightman in Matagorda County. Most of the revolutionary soldiers buried in Texas were from the south. Fifteen were born in Virginia, 10 in North Carolina and five in South Carolina. In addition, two were born in Maryland and one each in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut and Louisiana. There was also one born in France, one in England and one in Nova Scotia. Three soldiers do not have a known place of birth. The above information is copied from the July 3, 1999 article written by Mic Barnette in the Houston Chronicle. He may be contacted at barnette@neosoft.com. Gerry Hodges Hackley in Houston
Della, I wish I could help. I am told that my Hodges family came from England; unfortunately, I am at a brick wall with my g-g-grandfather, Francis Calloway Hodges, born about 1812 in Tennessee. If I can ever learn who his parents were, maybe I'll be able to make it to England. Happy hunting, Winnie flatlander@worldnet.att.net wrote: > > Hello to all you Hodges, > > I have been watching your list for about a month, and am > much impressed with the amount of information posted. > This is a very active list, and I joined it in hopes of > finding some English ancestors. Hello to all you Hodges, I have been watching your list for about a month, and am much impressed with the amount of information posted. This is a very active list, and I joined it in hopes of finding some English ancestors. Unfortunately, it appears to be strictly for SouthEastern US. Are there any British researchers out there? I am looking for GGGrandfather HODGES who lived in Ross, Hereford. I don't know his first name but he was married to a woman with lastname of THOMAS. Both would have been born between 1790 and 1810. Their children included JOHN b.1831, ROBERT, CHARLOTTE b. 1834, RHODA AND EDWARD b. 1839. They later moved to Filton, Gloucestershire. Any help would be greatly appreciated Della Born Bristol, Eng. now in the California desert! -- flatlander@worldnet.att.net Searching for: GLS - BEVAN, COLMAN, HARVEY, FORD, HODGES SOM - HANHAM HEF - HODGES SSX - LILLYWHITE, MANFIELD, STREET, PELLETT
I really appreciate your sharing this tidbit of interest on these men. One in particular, Alexander Hodge, of Fort Bend County, is an ancestor. Just ads special interest to my family notes. Was this the entire article (July 3, 1999) or was there more? I thought it might have been edited or summarized a little. Interested in anything along that line. Thanks to Gerry Hodges Hackley for passing it on and Mic Barnette for rounding it up for us. Betty E. Poe

I am looking for information on the following family. J J Hodges (could be Jasper Jefferson) In the 1870 census I found him living in Fort Lewis, Sebastian, CO....... AR. With him was listed a D. E. Donahue. I do not know who this person. J. J. Hodges was married to an Elzada Loucinda Earls. I have a picture of her taken most likely in the mid-1920's. She is standing in a garden and my father and brother are in the picture. The picture is marked Des Arc, AR. They had one child that I know of. William J. Hodges, b. October 1873 in Mississippi. He was married to Irene Letitia Horne. No date. They had three children. Gladys Hodges Aileen Hodges, She was born in AR. In the 1900 census of Little Rock, AR. she is shown as 5 years old. Maurice Robert Hodges, Was shown as 2 years old. Maurice Robert Hodges later changed his name to Robert Maurice Hodges. He also changed his date of birth, I believe so he could enter the Army for WW1. There was much controversy about his birth year but the 1900 census showed him as 2 years of age, so I must think he was born in 1898 and not the 1896 that I was always told. There was also a Finn Horne listed as living with them in the 1990 census. I do not know this person. Irene Letitia Horn In 1918 lived at the following address. 618 Beech Street Texarkana, AR. There is some discretion about the age of William J. Hodges also. Maurice Robert/Robert Maurice Hodges was my father. b. November 10, 1898, I believe in Des Arc, AR. m. Mary Helen Booth, February 7, 1920, Had two children, Robert M. and Marisue; d. May 2, 1950. I have a few other details about the Hodges family but not much. If any one out there makes a connection I would love to hear from them as I know very little about my fathers family. My mother and father divorced in 1939. I was 7-8 years of age. Thank you. Marisue Hodges Mitchell

Hello Alison, Your Elijah is probably from a long line of Elijah's. The last one talked to not long ago. He lives in the Los Angeles area of Southern California. He said he's done some work in the area. I don't know what he has, or really how to find him. I found him on a locator on the web at work. I work for Gateway. Good luck, Elijah ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Free software, free e-mail, and free Internet access for a month! Hello Mary Hoppin, This is Elijah Hodges, descendant of Richard Hodges of Ripley County Indiana, KY, Culpepper Dist, SC and Essex County VA. I have a book of descendants of Richard's father, Richard, that is far from complete, but a substantial work. I would like to have what you have to add to the work. Harvey Bottoms and Al Metts have both added substantially to it. Most of it was done by a genealogist who probably died in the early seventies. I'm trying to add to this work. I'm also trying to share what I have with everybody who is descended from Richard Hodges. Please take my address from above and let's share some information.
