    1. [HODGES-L] The Liquor Conspiracy Case
    2. Kenneth Hodge
    3. It seems that I read in the paper recently about a large "moonshine raid" in Franklin Co., Va.. This reminded me that there was in 1935 another very large case in the same area, concerning many Hodges. During and shortly after the depression days, a farmer could sell his corn for about $.50 a bushel. Or, he could turn it into whiskey and earn about $2.00 for the same amount of corn. The combination of "The Great Depression" and "Prohibition" started a whole new industry. Since some in my line were famous, or infamous as the case may be, in the legal and illegal distilling process, I was interested. My G-Uncle, age 93, recently told me that as a Deputy Sheriff in Tn. during the 1930's he was told that if it wasn't for his relatives he wouldn't have a job. Anyone recognize the following Hodges who were caught in 1935 in Franklin? D. (W.) Wilson Hodges Sheriff of Franklin Co. Willard R. Hodges Joseph P. Hodges former Sheriff Alphonso Hodges George S. Hodges Kent Hodges Ken in Orlando

    3. kEN & SUE; I have a Charles Hodges b. 18 Jul 1797 and m. 27 Jan 1816 in MS Territory to Mary "Polly" Milhous who was born about 1794 in Camden Dist., SC. There children were: James Ansel Hodges b. 19 Nov 1816 in AL m. 12 Jul 1868 in MS d. 24 Jul 1898 in Indian Territory spouses: Anna Spencer Rutledge, Elizabeth Evaline Jackson, Louisa Ann elizabeth Mason Elzira Hodges b. 1818 Ann K. Hodges b. 1826 sp: Jesse Egger John William Hodges b. 1828 Limestone Co., AL m. 15 Nov 1849 Frances E. McNutt Charles F. Marion Hodges b. 1830 in Limestone Co., AL d. Jan 1863 spouse: Georgia Ann Lessel I believe that I got this from a County History of Itawamba Co. MS. Rev. Charles Hodges was ordained in the Primitive Baptist Church of Alabama 21 June 1831. He was a member of the organizing presbytery of the Enon Primitive Baptist Church Itawamba Co. MS 1835. Charles and Mary "Polly" Milhous were the parents of three sons and five daughters. Rev. Hodges died 22 June 1856 and is buried in Bourland Cemetery in Itawamba Co., MS. Mary was living with daughter Elizabeth in 1860. She is probably buried in Bourland cemetery; however, there is no marker. The narrator of the Dallas genealogy radio talk show, Michael Matthews, studies the Bourland family and their is a Bourland family association. I am certain that they have some good information on some of this family line; however, I have not yet had time to check on that source. 2. Hi Pat: Thanks so much for this information on the Hodge Ship Records. I feel this family may in someway connect to my line of Hodge that came to Middle TN in about 1780's as my Francis Hodge named children Elizabeth, John, Robert & James. This list will give me approximate birthdates. If anyone else has anything on this family I would be very interested to try and do some research on them as my Francis Hodge was supposed a Junior and his Father would have been born around the same time frame. Thanks, Gale
