    3. Does any one have information on a James Hodges that died in Robertson Co. TN about 1806. His administrators were Hiram and Drury Hodges. I believe James was from rhe Franklin Co. or Pittsylvania Co, VA area. He might of had children born between 1760-1785 give or take a few years.

    3. Sherry - this sounds like the typical family story from your grandmother's grandmother, etc. However, remember your history from school. The Mayflower was 1620. I don't know when "shortly thereafter was". Georgia was founded 1832 which was considerably later than the Mayflower. My understanding is that Georgia was largely settled by convicts or those in the prisons in England. They may have been imprisoned for minor crimes (ie, stealing a loaf of bread) or something less then a misdemeanor today. Anyway, the English wanted to get rid of their prison population so they released many of them if they agreed to go to their colonies. I suggest that you may want to get some source documents on your Hodges, like death certificates, birth certificates, marriage records, military records, census, land, etc. to substiate your claims. Who knows you may even be a cousin of mine. Gerry Hodges Hackley in Houston From the line of Jesse,Jr., Jesse, Isaac Allen, Dennis Newton Hodges, Isaac Hodges, ?Abel Hodges Note that my HODGES family used the typical naming patterns or traditions of the time. first boy - paternal grandfather first girl - maternal grandmother second boy - maternal grandfather second girl - paternal grandmother third boy - after his father third girl - after her mother Some of these people had more than a dozen children. Nobody had only two unless they died young. Keep checking. Remember they did not have birth control and besides they probably needed an extra hand or more in the fields or whatever they did to earn a living. 3. You have quite a bit of filling in to do. First of all settlers lived in VA, NC and SC long before they got to Georgia. Either they came over later or their move was 100 years after the Mayflower. 3. I'm working on this line for my step-sister. The following is relationship: Edmond Hodges: Children: Abel and Aaron (More?) Abel Hodges and wife: Jane Winslow Caudell Children: James, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mahala, Mary, Sarah and Cynthia Eye James Lafoon Hodges and wife Sarah Amenda Falen Children: EmmaLine (Emmaline), Luther, George, Robert, Walter, Mary Ann Mary Ann Hogdes and husband: Rudolph R. Lehmann Children: Alma, Lawrence, Florence, Leona, and James Florence Lehmann and husband: William M. Johnson Children: Marilyn K. and Norma Jane Jane is the one I'm doing the research for. The reason for thinking that Edmond was born in England is: On the back of a picture of Edmond Hodges, the picture is in Janes possession, Jane's Grandmother Mary Ann Hodges Lehmann states that Edmond was born in England. This woman was VERY seldom wrong in her recall of family history. I still treat this fact as a family tradition. Almost all of the information I have is from interviews with Mary Hodges Lehmann and her daughters, Florence (also my step-mother) and Leona. I have been working on my own family history for over 25 years, and just started this as a favor to my sister Jane. Any help would be appreciated. 1. [HODGES-L] Biography Database 1680-1830
    2. What a very fun data base.....if your ancestor is from the British Isles......find out the reading habits of your ancestor amongst other things. connie http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search/3877.htm Description: The Biography Database 1680-1830 is a massive collection of biographical records from the following sources: National, town, and trade directories of the UK and USA All known book subscription lists All birth, marriage, death, promotions, and bankruptcies from a number of regular journals including the Gentleman#s Magazine from its inception in 1731 to 1870 All extant society membership lists from the period A number of miscellaneous additional biographical sources contributed by individual academics, who consulted for the project. The database makes available biographical sources that previously were too large and too dispersed for practical consultation. It also lets genealogists trace some individuals and families from birth, through marriage, work, reading interests, offices they held, children, and social groups to death. The entire data collection will be distributed in five installments, which together provide information on over 5 million individual names. Each installment lists roughly 1 million names. This database represents the first two installments. The entire project will be completed before 2001. Questions about the compilation of the database should be directed to Avero Publications at nstc@newcastle.ac.uk
