    1. [HODGES-L] help Please on Will
    2. Josephine Lindsay Bass
    3. Can anyone tell me why a will of Richard HODGES was dated 1747 in Beaufort NC and was proven in Beaufort Co. NC in 1752 and on record in the court house in Charleston. Also was recorded in Anson Co. NC. There is a deed of a purchase to a Richard Hodges 5 Sep 1750 in Marlboro Co. SC of 350 acres. (there was no Marlboro Co. then) . I do not have copie of the Will or the deed. Problem: there is a Richard Hodges in Beaufort, who made a will in 1749 - tradition says he moved to SC and d. 1752. Had a son John in Beaufort and some other children, tradition says this son John then went to SC and took up his father's property. But there is also, a John I b 1720 and Rebecca in Old Cheraw Dist. SC with a son John II. There is a record of a Richard there. This John I b VA has a brother William identified in Cumberland Co. NC. "Richard Hodges baptized a Dec 2, 1752 as son of John Hodges & Rebecca at Parish Prince Frederick Winyah, being 3 weeks old". (Nat'l Soc of Col Dames 1916 p. 37). Question: Would John I living in Long Bluff, Old Cheraw Dist, Craven Co. SC - (1785 became Marlboro & Darlington Cos.) - have traveled to this Parish, Frederick in Winyah, to baptize a 1st born in 1752, and no others of their children baptized there. John I and John II attended the Welsh Neck Church in Cheraw Dist. SC. John II later attended the Cashway Ch in Darlington. appreciate any help thank you josie jbass@digital.net 216 Beach Park Lane Cape Canaveral, FL 32920-5003 Home of The *HARRISON* Repository & *MY FAMILY* http://moon.ouhsc.edu/rbonner/harintro.htm Our Family WWW: http://moon.ouhsc.edu/rbonner/index.htm LINDSAY & HARRISON Surnames & CSA-HISTORY Roots Mail List GENCONNECT: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.html Data Managed by beautiful daughter Becky Bass Bonner and me, Josephine Lindsay Bass

    3. My uncle and my granfather, both HODGES, apparentely had serious mental problems. My sister and I were shielded from the facts of what was really going on and we probably will never know. Both died in the early 1940's when no one really talked about mental problems. And our family members who did know, wouldn't talk about it to us. I think this is a key part of genealogy...medical facts, both mental and physical. 3. Hi Diana, I have some on the Hodges but no more on the Raifords. Have you contacted Bob Peavy? I believe this is his line. Joshua Hodges of the Newbern District later moved to Georgia. See "Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers by Mrs. Howard H. Mc Call page 91 for following: Joshua HODGES, Sr. Born in NC, Oct. 13, 1736; died in Bullock Co., Ga. March 12 ?, 1809. He served in the militia from Martin Co., NC under Capt. Kenneth Mc Kenzie on a tour of duty, 1780; received a land grant in Burke Co., Ga for his service. He married in North Carolina, Ann Raiford. All of their children lived and died in Bulloch County, Ga except daughter Aley, who married and removed to Lowndes Co., Ga. (Also see "Pioneers of Wiregrass Ga Vol. 1" by Folks Huxford, page 60). Haven't done any research on insanity per se [yet] and there seem to be no other known instances in this family line...[that's not to say that I don't have my share of crazy relatives]....Has anyone done any research on the genetics of this? Is it primarily considered environmental and stress related.....or are there several types of insanity and multiple causal factors? Guess I'm not asking a simple yes or no type question, but perhaps someone out there has some references for the layperson to peruse? Thanks for suggestions......connie
