    2. Hi Shirley and Jamie.....Thanks for your responses to my insanity query. I've certainly found a lot of information pouring into my mail box and every piece of data adds up. My cousin Flavia has told me that our relative's cause for admission was "exhaustion". Most likely his, but parenthetically it could also have been that of the family that decided to admit him. Now that may not be genetically linkable, but as the years roll by I find tinges from my tired gene acting up. connie

    3. ROOTSWEB ADDS JUNE 1999 SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX (SSDI). Now you can access the most recent version of the SSDI at RootsWeb <http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi>. Accessible fields include first and last names, date of birth, month and year of death, last residence, last benefit, Social Security Number, and the state where it was issued. You can narrow a search to a particular state, country, city or zip code, or to a particular date of birth or death, by using the Advanced Search Feature. When you find a record of interest, you can automatically generate a printer ready letter to the Social Security Administration requesting a photocopy of the actual application for a Social Security Number (Form SS-5-Social Security Number Record Third Party Request for Photocopy). This new database, which is running on two new high-performance servers, is another example of your contributions at work. The more that you contribute, the more free genealogical data RootsWeb can make available to the Internet community of genealogists. * * *

    3. I only know of one Elijah Hodges from Franklin County. He was my 3xgreatgrandfather and did not have a son Elijah. There are three Elishas that I know of. One is the brother of Elijah above. Another was a son of Abednego Hodges. And the third was a son of William Hodges. All of these are probably at least two generations older than the man you are looking for (i.e., born in the 1790's). I assume you have not found him on the 1860 Census fo Franklin County, so my best suggestion would be to get a list of all the Hodges on the 1852 personal property tax list for Franklin County. It theoretically lists all males over the age of 16. It is probably available from the Clerk's office in Rocky Mount There is no marriage listed in Wingfield's book for a Rebecca Jenkins and a Hodges, or a Rebecca Jenkins and anybody, or a Hodges and a Rebecca anybody. I know that this is no answer, but it may help narrow it down. Unfortunately, being named Hodges in Franklin County is like being named Smith or Jones most other places.
