Just found out something that I thought I'd pass along to you all. Sometimes if you leave the subject line of your message blank it causes the message to bounce. This does not happen every time but every once in a while. So, please be sure to put something in the subject line. If you are like me, I forget to do so sometimes. <G> Thanks, Diana

In response to message about James Hodges, state of South Carolina, Newberry County will proven June 5, 1787. The following record will help you with approximate date James Hodges went to SC. Court Record, 9-23-1783: Halifax dB 12:365. James Hodges of Halifax to WM. Carr of Halifax and Antrim Parish for 150 pounds, one parcel of land, part of 2 surveys, surveyed for sd Hodges on Bradley's Cr., patent line to WM. Carr, containing about 235 acres. Signed James Hodges, Martha (X her mark) Hodges. Win. John Carr, and others recorded Oct. 16, 1783, Patty, wife of James Hodges volunt. relinq'd dower. This should prove who the wife of James Hodges was. The following comment of some other Hodges researchers: ( He mentions paper "A Short History of Our Family", by Miliner Echoes written 1850, saying that John Echols, an Englishman, came to America about the end of 16th or first of 17th century, settled in Caroline Co., Va and married tall redheaded woman named Mary Cane and by her had 5 sons and 3 daughters. One son was Abraham Echols who married Sarah Tamer and one daughter Patty married James Hodges. Where? Samuel Echols families live Brunswick Co., Va. area on Bradley Creek along with Welcome William, Edmund and Thomas Hodges. (date1754) That is where Jesse Hodges was born to James & Patty. I have been researching Hodges trying to find the father of Isham Hodges b. ca 1750 Va. Moved to SC by 1770-75. Isham married Mary--? Isham Hodges died 1798,Marlboro Co., SC. Only know of sons Isham Jr., Edmond and John. Would also like any information on Joseph Hodges, son of James Hodges and Patty Echols. Who did he marry and names of children. Hope this helps James O Hodges or someone else on list. Betty
Liz, You are in the same boat that I am in. I have a Lemuel Hodges that died in Norfolk Co. ca 1800 and have not been able to get much information on him or his descendents. I suspect they were related. I am also haveing trouble with the Sawyer Family that was in the area. Some of the Hodges researchers did help me get some of the family straighted out. Hello, I was wondering if anyone had sorted out the Hodges from Norfolk Co., and was wondering if they tie into the Isle of Wight Co. Hodges. I have two Hodges families in to early Norfolk Co. area. One is Joseph Hodges who left a will 1765, and Benjamin who died before May of 1775. Joseph was in taxes with almost grown sons in 1730 and Benjamin is listed in the reconstructed 1760 taxes. I have looked at the will books in Norfolk Co., but can not seem to tie the famlies together. They could be brothers or cousins? I look forward to any replies. If your ancestor was a Revolutionary War Vet, who settled in Kentucky, take a look at the following web site. http://www.sos.state.ky.us/intranet/REvlist.asp It is a searchable site of Virginia Military Land Warrants issued for Kentucky land. You can download copies of the original warrant.

To M HODGE In a message dated 99-08-10 15:04:46 EDT, you write: << Jim Where did your James Hodge die. I don't know if this is any connection but Drury and Hiriam are from the Franklin Co or Pittsylvania Co, VA area. I do not know where this James is from. >> I apologize profusely for not responding to your question sooner. For a variety of reasons, including being out of town a lot, I got very far behind on reading and making decisions about my e-mails. Some, including yours, I forwarded to myself to give me more time. AOL deletes messages that are on the board 27 days. I can't answer your question with any certainty; however, we have two pieces of information that are helpful. 1. Newberry County, SC, P, 2, Will Book A - 1787-1796 "WILL of James HODGES, deceased, dated 19 May 1787, proven 5 June 1787. Wife Martha; children: (1) Joseph, (2) Christina, (3) Jesse, (4) Rebecca SHAW, (5) Patty SHAW. Other legatees: Sarah GLASS (2) Toby GLASS. Wit: Reuben GOLDING, George ELLIOT, Haley SHAW, Joseph HODGES." 2. Halifax Co., VA , chancery case, Arg. 18 Jan 99. "William CARR (comp.) against William GLASS and Sarah his wife, Robert SHAW and Patsey his wife, Haley SHAW and Rebecca his wife, Jesse HODGES, Joseph Hodges, Chainey HODGES and JAMES HODGES, heirs of James HODGES dec'd " I hope to get copies of the original documents to see what else they contain. Also, I am assuming that Chainey and Christina are the same person. It is likely that James died in Newberry County, SC. I'd like to know when and why he moved from Halifax Co., VA to SC and how many of his children moved with him. My Jesse moved with his family from Pittsylvania Co, VA to Wilson Co., TN abt. 1798. All of our information about James, comes from Jesse's line and his descendants. Perhaps descendants of his other children might know more, i.e., where he came from and when he was born. There is also a question about his wife or wives. We have information that his wife was Rebecca Echols, however, the two documents above identify the wife as Martha. If you can shed any light on any of this it would be greatly appreciated. Jim Hodges
Hi All, Finally got the death certificate on my Charles J. Hodges. He died of chronic hypertensive heart disease. Now I know it's on both sides of my family tree. Oh well, on to more important things. Charles Jefferson Hodges was born on Sept 10, 1870 in Ft. Valley, GA. His father was Charles Hodges also born in Fort Valley. His mother was Martha Rockamore, also born in Fort Valley. Anybody have anything on Ft. Valley Hodges. Has anybody ever heard of a Rockamore? Sue

Still Looking for Sinder Hodges from Coolidge Ky Father William Crabtree anyone heard of her Christy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Trouble With the Gene Pool Is That There's No Lifeguard ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ got this is the mail with a few other jokes, but with doing the family history and all I thougt It was funny enough to share with all
Hello; Looking for information relating to two people who might be one in the same person ....I know this sounds funny but fact is the whole thing is strange... I am looking for : Herman Cecil Hodge b abt 1908 in Virginia... Charlie Hodge b abt 1908 in Virginia. The family oral history has this man as being one and the same person ...People that i have talked to about this man say that he was from Giles county VA and when he left home he was suppose to have taken a job in the Winding Gulf area of Wyomming county WV. He was suppose to be born Herman Cecil Hodge but was thought to have been in some trouble early in his life and went by the name of Charlie Hodge who was thought to have been a brother that passed away as a child. If anyone has a history of Winding Gulf would they mind taking a look for these names...This man was known to be in Indiana and also California...I think that it is a classic case of a mother not wanting her children to know who their father is but I also think that it is a unfair thing to do to your children...Good or bad the family just wants to find out about him! Can anyone help?????? The family said that they got word the day that Kennedy died that he also died ?? Does anyone know anything about this man or have any similar cases in which they solved the problem of finding their links to the ones that they are looking for...? I can use all the help i can get on this one ...I have never seen the slightest clue except knowing his two children....Katie
Hi Christine, I would venture a guess that BILL STUFF A SPECIALTY is actually Build Stuff a Specialty as in building a house or barn, etc. Spelling wasn't a strong point for some in those days and you still find today that it isn't a strong point with some. That's my guess as the answer to your Mystery.
