    3. I would be interested in seeing that information. Luther H. Hodges was governor of NORTH Carolina 1953-60. He is my great-uncle and is decended from the Hodges of Franklin County, Virginia. I am very interested in the link between that family and the Hodges of Marlboro County, SC. 3. Where can the paper, "A Short History of Our Family" by Miliner Echoes written in 1850 be found? It sounds interesting to many of us. The family you mention might be related to an ancestor that a few of us are hunting, Redding Augustus Othaniel Hodges (b. 1790). Did you see this name anywhere? The following record will help you with approximate date James Hodges went to SC. Court Record, 9-23-1783: Halifax dB 12:365. James Hodges of Halifax to WM. Carr of Halifax and Antrim Parish for 150 pounds, one parcel of land, part of 2 surveys, surveyed for sd Hodges on Bradley's Cr., patent line to WM. Carr, containing about 235 acres. Signed James Hodges, Martha (X her mark) Hodges. Win. John Carr, and others recorded Oct. 16, 1783, Patty, wife of James Hodges volunt. relinq'd dower. This should prove who the wife of James Hodges was. The following comment of some other Hodges researchers: ( He mentions paper "A Short History of Our Family", by Miliner Echoes written 1850, saying that John Echols, an Englishman, came to America about the end of 16th or first of 17th century, settled in Caroline Co., Va and married tall redheaded woman named Mary Cane and by her had 5 sons and 3 daughters. One son was Abraham Echols who married Sarah Tamer and one daughter Patty married James Hodges. Where? Samuel Echols families live Brunswick Co., Va. area on Bradley Creek along with Welcome William, Edmund and Thomas Hodges. (date1754) That is where Jesse Hodges was born to James & Patty. I have been researching Hodges trying to find the father of Isham Hodges b. ca 1750 Va. Moved to SC by 1770-75. Isham married Mary--? Isham Hodges died 1798,Marlboro Co., SC. Only know of sons Isham Jr., Edmond and John. Would also like any information on Joseph Hodges, son of James Hodges and Patty Echols. Who did he marry and names of children. 3. For years, I have been searching for the maiden name of Rebecca who was the wife of Jonn Hodges. This is the John Hodges of Marlboro Co.( son of Isham, brother of Edmond and Isham jr). On August 18th I received the following message:********************************* "My name is John Throgmorton and yesterday Mike Hodge forward a Rootsweb HODGES message that you sent 18 Aug 1999, Subject [Hodges-L] Tennessee Hodges. He had received my email to Rootsweb Jackson Purchase where I requested information on William Pinckney Hubbard. In the write-up I noted that William Pickney Hubbard was the son of Tristian and Jane (Hodges) Hubbard. Tristian was a son of Peter N. and Mary Ann (Odom) Hubbard. Tristian was b: 15 Aug 1802, SC and d: Will dated 30 Jul 1858 and Record in Murray, Calloway Co., KY 1 Aug 1858. Tristian names his son Pickney, daughters, Mary Ann, Jane, and Sarah Ann. [County Records Will Book C page 233.] Jane was b: c 1813, SC and d: bef. 30 Jul 1858. There is a published in the Vital Statistics 1852-1859: Jane Hubbard, 28 year old daughter of John & Rebecca Hodges d: 28 Sep 1854, Calloway Co., KY. This statement does not add up to being the correct Jane Hodges. She would have been 2 years old when she married Tristian, bur she was b: c 1813. Before my question: Rebecca Hodges is the daughter of Mackey McNatt. b: c 1786, Cheraws District, SC. she d: c 1831, Stewart Co., TN. I have another daughter of Mackey McNatt: Jane b: c 1779. d: 1850. She married John Hubbard [brother of Tristian] c 1797, SC. John b: 24 May 1779, Cheraws District, SC and d: 1850, Mississippi. With the comment about Edmond Hodges sons following John Hodges west, in your email. Do you have any idea on the parent of Jane Hodges? Any help is appreciated other thoughts are that she may be the daughter of David Hodges." ( END OF MESSAGE) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- It just goes to show that every little bit of information that we post may help someone else. I had the information that John Throgmorton needed and will post it in case it is of some use to someone else. I found the following information in my book-Calloway County Marriages 1823/1846: License number License date Hubbard Tristran - legal age 192 10-01-1828 Hodges Jane - Consent of father David Hodges m.by Wm. Rowlett,JP,10-01-1828 I also found the following information: Stewart Co. Tennessee Deed Book 4 1810-1813 #238 Division of land of Mackey McNatt deceased by commissioners, Dudley Williams and Joseph B.Neville. Calloway Co. Kentucky and Stewart Co. Tennesse are just across the river from each other so there must be some relationship between John and David. Does anyone have any information on David? The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution is one of the oldest organizations in the United States dedicated to the preservation of American Revolutionary War genealogies. This database, containing references to Revolutionary War ancestors and their descendants, was created from "Lineage Books of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution." These lineage books contain information submitted by tens of thousands of individuals with connections to Revolutionary War patriots.
