    3. Margie - I have been searching through some of my old correspondence (snail mail) and on 6 May 1995 I wrote to Mrs. Betty Sentell of 214 Blue Ridge Rd., Black Mountain, North Carolina 27811. My letter came back as she died about 6 months before I wrote the letter. My understanding was that she was doing research on ancestors of one of her sons, LeRoy Hodges. I had gotten her address from one of her EXdaughter' s in law, Jeanine (Browne) Hodges Lebowski. Jeanine is a sister to one of my aunt's by marriage, Vera Browne Hodges (Mrs. Ray L. Hodges now of Phoenix). Jeanine was once married to Lang Hodges who was the son of LeRoy Langford Hodges, Jr. (born 3 June 1922 in Montezuma, GA). Does anyone know about this LeRoy Hodges line??? I meant to click on print, but pressed delete instead. Are you a member of the HODGES-List? If not, let me tell you about it, it is a free email list where HODGES researches send emails to everyone on the HODGES List concerning their HODGES' ancestors. It is really fun, and the group is VERY HELPFUL and fun. If you are interested in joining, you send an email to: HODGES-L@rootsweb.com then type in 'SUBSCRIBE' and send it. I will forward a copy of this email to the list to see if I have instructed you correctly. Thanks again for the information. Happy hunting. 3. Jim, Hope the hurricane doesn't get to you! So far, so good with it not coming on shore, but know it is eroding the beaches again. Maybe it will turn north some more and really miss the mainland altogether. Heard from Ken in Orlando tonight and they got very little damage and the winds were only in the 35 mph range with gusts to 50 mph and 5 1/2" of rain. Here in Texas that speed wind is "normal" for just about any day, as you well know. We could use the rain, but not the storms here. Right now, I am trying to get in touch with some of the WALDRON descendants of the HODGES family. They attend the Wedgwood Baptist Church where the shooting took place tonight in Ft. Worth, Tx. and are very active. Hopefully, they were somewhere else tonight. Haven't done much research lately. However, am curious if you ever got an answer about this Jesse HODGES, Jr.? I don't think this is the right relationship either. I still think that the Jesse HODGES who was in Hunt Co., Tx. was the son of Jesse HODGES and Elizabeth COLLINS, not the one mentioned in this message. A lot of the information would indicate that this is the case, but have not been able to prove it. All the evidence is circumstantial at this point. When I get some "free" time, will go up to the courthouse and talk to Joyce BARROW, the tax assessor/collector for Hunt Co., Tx. who is supposed to have a detailed family tree on this Jesse HODGES. 3. This is probably information from Katherine Meyers taken originally from Jessie Lotta Hodges. Note the spelling error, I do this sometime just to trace my own research. Jessie was the daughter of John Lawrence Hodges, s/o Dr. John Hodges. In my opinion Jessie's work [ "THE MARLBORO [S.C.] HODGES FAMILY - by Jessie Lotta Hodges, Donated, by request, to the South Carolina Library, Columbia, South Carolina" ] was very good where she dealt with facts but she tended to make some unsupportable assumptions to connect those facts. The John and Elizabeth, immigrants to Jamestown, were killed in the massacre and their only son John was not mentioned again. Note the following quote:: "Our early Marlboro Hodges family was closely related to the Hodges' of Cumberland, N.C. whose progenitor settled in Goochland, Va. Just note this - - Rev. Moses Sr. of County Northampton, Eng. m. (1) Frances d. of Edmund Johnson. "Believe it or not", Goochland, Va. records include an Edmund Hodges, who not only had a son and a grandson, Moses, but also a son Johnson Hodges. The recurrence of these unusual family names in both the English County Northampton lineage and our own American lines could not be mere coincidence." Sounds like a reach to me. 1. Re: [HODGES-L] Rebecca CHERRY
    2. Diana, I have no proof, but every thing I have seen has on John Hodges Sr, Wife has been just the name Rebecca Cherry, daughter of, Lemuel Cherry & Francis Ballentine, His Grandson, Capt. George Hodges, br. 1769 mr. Sarah Cherry, daughter of, George Cherry, this is noted in the book History of Marlboro Co.There is a large monument in Brownsville, S.C. Hodges cemetary inscribed, Capt. George Hodges, Capt. U.S. Army War 1812 BR. Marlboro District, 1769--1851 Buried near Cashu Ferry the name may be, Sarah Rebecca Cherry, I am just saying I had never seen it that way untill this post, also When I was in Marlboro, S.C. doing research this past summer, I copied some notes in the files on Hodges at the Historical center I don't know who wrote them or put them in the files, but thought this was interesting listed these names , in this order, South Carolina Hodges Family I. Henry D. 1555 in Daventry, England II. William Sr. obit. 1577 in Daventry III. William Jr. obit. 1641 in Daventry, married Elizabeth Rogers IV. John and wife Mary, English emigrant V. Robert, The Isle of Wight, Virgina VI. Robert Jr. wife Ann of Isle of Wight and Bertie N.C. VII. Richard, wife Sara Marlboro County S.C. VIII. John Sr., wife Rebecca (Cherry), Marlboro County S.C. IX. John Jr., wife Anna, Marlboro Co. S.C. married Anna Magee X. Capt. George, wife Sara (Cherry) Marlboro Co. S.C. XI. Dr. John Alexander and wife, Charlotte Irby Emanuel. and then it lists Dr John's children, This is the first time I have seen the first 4 names at the top, of page, has anyone else seen this before? Ruby

These electronic pages cannot be reproduced in any format for profit or other presentation. ********************************************************************* The first list reflects the majority of the land purchases sold by the Holland Company to various individuals in New York. Please note that some of the parcels were resold in subsequent years, or the original purchase was 1807 or later. A separate list is provided for the years 1807 through 1823. The second list embraces the names, generally of the first six (or more) of the persons who took contracts in townships upon the Holland Purchase, in which no contracts were taken previous to January 1, 1807. The Township and range references should be cross-indexed with the table following the lists. This will provide the location for each land parcel as of 1850, the publication date of the book. This book contains much more than the following lists! There is information of genealogical value about some of the family names mentioned in the lists, as well as information about the Holland Company, and historical notes for the years the book encompasses.
