Hi I have just begun research on my husbands family, they were in the Henry and Houston County areas in the late 1800's I don't have a lot of info but maybe there is a connection William Hodges married Eugenia Arnold May 5, 1892 they are both buried in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Bainbridge Ga. They had several children the only one I have info on is Barney Dawson Hodges (my husband's grandfather) He married Alma Pearl Kennedy This is about all of the info I have, if you run across any of these names please email me. Thanks, Cathy Moss Hodges in Alabama
Good to be back on the Hodges list after a hiatus. Still looking for info on my ancestor Robert Hodges, b. abt. 1825, married Sabrina Parker, Sumter Co. Georgia 1850; died 1899 Houston Co. AL In the course of researching this line, I have discovered a Hodges line which was heretofore unknown to me. Joseph Hodges, in Laurens Co., Ga in 1817, made a deed of gift to his wife Nancy Hodges, daughter Mavel Hodges, and son John Hodges. He may have died soon afterward as I have been ablet to find no further record of him. Robert Hodges was apparently a sheriff of Twiggs County, Ga who moved to Laurens County, Georgia early 1820's. He died in 1827 in Pulaski County, Ga; his estate was administered by John J. Hodges (presumably the same John above) who sold Robert Hodges' estate "for the benefit of his heirs." By 1850, John J. Hodges had moved to Sumter Co., Ga,; census indicates he is b. abt. 1801 Ga; wife Charlott b. abt. 1803 S.C.; son Edmond b. abt. 1828. By 1858 John J. Hodges had moved to the part of Henry County, AL. that became Houston County. My ancestor Robet Hodges moved to live near him in the same area of the future Houston County in the late 1870's. My Hodges line is as follows: Descendants of Robert Hodges 1 Robert Hodges b: Abt. 1825 in Georgia d: February 10, 1899 in Houston County, Ala . + Sabrina Parker b: February 1827 in Georgia, probably Sumter County d: Aft. April 1908 in Geneva County, Alabama m: September 12, 1850 in Sumter County, Georgia 2 Lamb Washington Hodges b: March 16, 1863 in Sumter County, Georgia d: February 23, 1910 in Geneva County, Alabama Burial: New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Houston Co., AL ... + Martha Jane Leggett b: March 04, 1857 in Dale County, Ala d: November 13, 1946 in Died in hospital in Chipley, Fl. Burial: New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Houston Co., AL Residence: Geneva County, Alabama 2 William E. Hodges b: Abt. 1851 in Sumter County, Georgia 2 Barney Green Hodges b: October 22, 1852 in Sumter County, Georgia d: September 09, 1933 ... + Dove Ann Parker b: January 01, 1863 in Sumter County, Georgia d: August 05, 1929 m: November 16, 1879 in Sumter County, Georgia 2 Joel King Hodges b: Abt. 1854 2 Mary Ann Hodges b: Abt. 1859 in Sumter County, GA 2 Robert J. Hodges b: Abt. February 1860 in Sumter County, GA 2 Alice Hodges b: Abt. 1862 in Sumter County, Georgia 2 Elizabeth L. Hodges b: Abt. 1857 d: Bet. 1860 - 1870

Gerry, I have been in contact with Earl. He is related. We are stumped with moving the line further back, but I keep trying. Marita
Folks, I seem to have contracted a virus. If you receive any mail from Wayne A. Hodges, do NOT open it. I am trying to rectify this problem. Please accept my apologies!
I appreciate your inquiry. As far as I know, the McNutt's that married into the HODGES family left Itawamba MS and come to Johnson Co. TX then went to Comanche Co., TX. I have not done much research on that line but I may have to start as I think it will give me more clues on some of my missing HODGES. I sent that message as a joke because things have been rather slow on our HODGES-L chat room. Thought it might perk things up a bit. About your Seth Hodges line, I have a copy of the Seth Hodges line that I received from a retired Navy fellow who lives in, I think, Port Wisby in the state of Washington. He sent me "snail mail" so I do not have his email address but I think he may be on the HODGES-L now but I am not certain. Anyway, I posted his line on this HODGES-L and you may find it through the archives. Also, you may find him through www.switchboard or some other such search engine. Thanks for your concern. I work for a Company in Norfolk, Va. that was founded over 70 years ago. One of the founders was a man named Sam HODGES who died in Norfolk in 1945. He reportedly had no wife or children. He lived in Norfolk with a niece whose married name was WHALEY. His business partners were men named HALL and RICHARDSON. There is only one living person who worked for him and the info I have stated is all this elderly gentleman can remember. He worked for the company from 1940 until retirement in 1979. I would appreciate any info on Sam HODGES b. ? circa 1877 d. Norfolk, Va. 1945. [email protected] ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Gerry, so glad you are high and dry. My niece is in Houston, and she was high enough to only have 7 in of water in her garage. I noted that you are doing research on McNutt. This was in Tues, 8 May, Springfield MO News Leader, p. 5B: Discovery of cemetery halts roadwork--Associated Press-Kansas City-- Construction of a new highway in south Kansas City has been halted by the discovery of a small cemetery dating back to the Civil War era. State officials are anxious to find any descendants of the Holloway family who are buried in the cemetery. If the heirs can't be found, the state will have to get court permission to move the nine graves in the plot, in order to finish a new Missouri 150. Construction workers recently unearthed a marble headstone, dating from 1858, while moving a large section of water pipe. Archaeologists later found another headstone and evidence of seven other graves. The site has not been disturbed further. Please pass this on to other lists. --------------FE7EC6BC243CF3F9072DC677--
