    1. Re: [HODGES-L] Hodges families in East Tennessee
    2. Ken, This Annis J. Hodges has to be the right one. Her father was Elijah Crouch, the son of John Crouch. She married John William (Buck) Hodges. Garfield Hodges was her son. Sarah Ann Crouch that married Howel A Hodges is in the same Crouch line. They did have a daughter named Annis, but this one isn't the one who married John William (Buck) Hodges. Sarah is Elijah's sister and my Annis' aunt (the one who married John William (Buck) Hodges. I don't know anything about the following names: Canada Clinton Hodges, Ina Mae Durham, son Buck, Tyra Mitchell, and Edna Ella (Whitaker) Durham. I do have Durham's in my line (Cora Callie Durham that married Jesse Blaine (J.B.) Hodges and Cora's father John Franklin Durham, his wife may have been Amanda Gilly). I am also getting ready to research Whitaker for a friend. They were from East Tenn. too. Any info on this family? All of my info came from my grandmother. She did't have any of it wrote down. She never met her great grandparents Annis and John (Buck), so she doesn't remember much about them. She was a Hodges who married a Gore from Southern Louisiana. I would really appreciate your help in my search. You are the first that has known anything about this family or has even reconized any names.Thank you so much for you time and help. I hope that you can help, and anything that I can do for you I will. Thanks, April

    3. P.J. and April, If the Annis J. Hodges (b. 11/07/1850, d. 12/23/1921) is the correct one, and I believe she is since she is buried near Garfield Hodges (b. 8/11/1881, d. 9/15/1930), then she is from your line of John. Other Hodges buried there are: Howell A. Hodges (12/11/1816 - 6/01/1908) m. 11/23/1837 Washington Co. sp. Sarah Ann Crouch There is some confusion in that Howell, in 1860 had a daughter living with him named Annis J.B. at age 19. In 1850 they were in Green Co. and Annis was 10. Another one of the line, Canada Clinton Hodges married Ina Mae Durham and had a son named Buck. Ina Mae's parents were Tyra Mitchell and Edna Ella (Whitaker) Durham. It seems that many of the pieces fit but not to the right puzzle. April, what is the source of your earlier info? Do you have original documentation? The reason that I asked if you lived in that area was that it might be the right time for a trip to the courthouse in Johnson City. Most of these dates are too current for my files. P.J., I'll be up there next week on a reunion trip and if it's OK with you I'll give you a call. 1. Re: [HODGES-L] HODGES in NY
    2. Eva Kinnard
    3. I'm really glad that Phil brought up the New York Hodges -- since I'm still looking for my own William Hodges and welcome any discussion of Hodges in that area. My ancestor William Hodges was born 1762 or 1763, and appears as head of household in Hoosick, Rensselaer Co, NY, in 1800. Several members of the Keziah Delavan and Ezekiel Hodges family are nearby, but I haven't yet found proof of any relationship. My William Hodges moved to Pittsburgh, PA, before 1810, and to Warren Co, PA, by 1814. He died in Warrren Co, PA, in 1837. I can provide more information if anyone is interested. All help will be appreciated! As to Henry Hodges, I believe a daughter Esther is missing from Kenneth's list of Henry's children. A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before 1692 (by James Savage): HENRY HODGES, Taunton, s. perhaps, of William of the same, m. 17 Dec. 1674, Esther, d. of the brave capt. John Gallop, had Mary, b. 3 Feb. 1676; Esther, 17 Feb. 1678; William, 18 Mar. 1680; Charity, 5 Apr. 1682; Henry; Benjamin; Joseph; John; Ephraim; Elizabeth; and Abigail; was elder of the ch. capt. and d. 30 Sept. 1717, aged 65. His will of 17 of that mo. names with his w. all the s. and ds. all liv. Mary m. a Keith; Esther m. a Southworth; and Charity m. a Leonard. I hope I've copied that correctly. If not, please let me know. Phil, could you please post approximate dates and a little more detail for your Ephraims, Benjamins, etc. I'm tracking lots of Hodges in and around NY and PA in trying to identify relatives of my family. Thanks. Eva

    3. Dear List, I think I found my Great Aunt Jerusha Hodges. I found her buried in La. (New Camp Ground Cem-Beauregard Parish, LA. The tombstone states that she was born Dec. 15, 1854 and died: Mar 17, 1934. She was married to a man by the name of William H. McDonald-b. Feb. 14, 1846(MS.) died: Oct 15, 1930. Does anybody have info on these people? Thanks in advance. Linda Hodge
