It is here with their permission. Harold Hodge GREENVILLE, S.C. --Harold Boyd "Hoppy" Hodge, 63, of 37 N. Estate Drive died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Kingsport Aug. 13, 1938, he was a son of Hazel Blevins Hodge of Abingdon and the late Charles W. Hodge Sr. Having spent the majority of his first 18 years of life as a patient at Greenville's Shriners Hospital, his lifelong dream was to become a Shriner and help other children who were "differently abled." Through much perseverance, determination and the loving support of his older brother and Shriner, Les Hodge, Hoppy became a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason and ultimately a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple. As a Shriner, Hoppy received many plaques and citations honoring his outstanding service on behalf of the crippled and burned child. He served two terms as captain of the wheelchair unit, treasurer of the scooter unit, honorary member of the Hejaz Motor Corp and earned Diamond status in his Shriner's Crown of Honor. Retired from the City of Greenville with more than 25 years of service, Hoppy was a dispatcher for both the city police department and the county sheriff's office. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his brother and sister-in-law, Les and Dianne Hodge of Greenville; two nephews, Steven W. Hodge of California and Alan J. Hodge of Greenville; and a niece, Kimberly Hodge Wood and family of Tigerville, S.C. He was predeceased by his father, and also a brother, Charles W. "Buddy" Hodge Jr. Visitaion will be held today from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, Greenville. Graveside services will be Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery, 839 Bluff City Highway, Bristol, Tenn., with burial arrangements handled through Weaver Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn. A funeral procession of family and friends will leave Weaver Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m. Monday, going to Glenwood Cemetery. the family requests memorials be made to the Shriners Hospital For Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. The family is at the home of Les and Dianne Hodge, 310 Tarr Blvd., Greenville, SC 29605.
