I am looking for anyone with information on a Asahel/Asa Hodge born in NY in 1804-5. He was 66 and living in Rutland Twp, Meigs Co. Ohio in 1870 with wife Sarah Elizabeth (who went by Elizabeth) age 23, yeah thats right 23, and son George E. age 2. Sarah is the daughter of Peter and Rhoda (Osborn) Vannest of Athens Co. Ohio. Asa and Sarah married in Sept of 1869. Asa was still living in 1876 as he was mentioned in Sarahs fathers will. By 1881 Sarah had married to David Armand in Hamilton Co. Ohio. Sarahs son George may have married in Hamilton Co. and he had 3 children that we know about. George born 1888, Lillian born 1890 in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co. OH and Edgar born in 1891. For some reason in the 1900 census those three children were living in Indiana with Sarah and her new Husband David Armand. We dont know why. We believe there was either a death of the wife of George E. or a divorce because in a journal written by one of the family it mentions a step-brother! in KY. So we believe George E. married again. Nothing is known about any of the spouses of George E. except that the first one was from Switzerland and that there is a connection to Helen Steiner Rice, subject of a biography called " AMBASSADOR OF SUNSHINE" written by Ronald Pollitt and Virginia Wiltse. Helen was the daughter of John Steiner and Anna Bieri born in 1872 in Wooster Ohio. The Bieri's were immigrants from Switzerland. It was also mentioned in the journal that George E. was living in Dover, Morris Co. NJ in the 1950s. We are looking to find out more on George E.and his marriages plus children of his second marriage. DENISE IN IOWA nrogers@machlink.com
