William Hodges Jr. MILLEDGEVILLE - Services for William Lamar Hodges Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Williams White Columns Funeral Home with burial in Baldwin Memorial Gardens. Hodges, 65, died Sunday, April 1, 2001. He was born in Washington County, son of the late William Hodges Sr. and Eve Burgamy Hodges. He had lived in Milledgeville since 1972 and was retired from Central State Hospital. The widower of Jean Holloway Hodges, he was a member of Hardwick United Methodist Church. He was a Mason. Survivors include his daughter Judy Vlass of Woodstock; sister Marie Hattaway of Warthen; and grandchildren Tripp Vlass and Katie Vlass. Thanks Bobby and Faye, Miles Edmond has the right birth date, but my Miles didn't die in 1830. We'll find him eventually. I apologize to everyone on the list who has been waiting for the remaining Hodge of Texas information. I've been out of touch for the past week for a really great and FUN reason. I'm a singer, and was just given the opportunity to sing three numbers at a Pops Concert coming up in April, so I've been doing a lot of rehearsals. PLUS, I went with a friend (to provide support for her) who wanted to audition for a play at a local community theater. I was asked to read for a part while waiting, so I did - just for the fun of it. WELL, I GOT THE LEAD! I've been called a drama queen a few hundred times in my life, but I've never done any acting, so I was FLOORED! The play is coming up the last three weekends in May - more rehearsals. I will continue my genealogy and keeping up with my e-mail (and getting the information I promised to all of you about the Hodges), but for the next two months, I'll only be able to do it on a weekly basis. This is what I have on the HODGE--HALL Families. Penelope Hodge was my Gt Grandmother. Most of the info below was researched by a cousin, V. Rigby . My son has helped with the search on the HALL & HODGE. Thomas Hall, father of Seborn James Hall. Thomas Hall had five wives. Seborn James was by his first wife,Penelopy Hodge, daughter of Miles Hodge and Frances ?. The second wife was Jane Miller. The third wife was Artimisha Lewis(Charlie Calvin's mother). The fourth wife was Lenorah Mason,(my great grandmother). Their daughter, Delanie Bertran Hall was the only child of this union. The fifth wife was Ellen Pauline Driskell. No children of this union, and she outlived Thomas. Thomas Hall was born in Applin Co. Ga. in 1830, son of Franklin Benjamin Hall and Elizabeth ?. This Hall Family is in Marion Ga. in 1840. In 1850, they are in Covington Co. Al. So is the Miles Hodge Family. In 1860, both Hall and Hodge families are in Holmes Co. Fl. Thomas is married to Penelopy Hodge and has three children; John Seborn and Eliza. Franklin Benjamin died in January of 1860 and is not in the census. Penelopy died in 1863 at the Naval Station in Pensacola Fl. Then Thomas enlisted in the First Florida (US) Cavalry in Feb. 1864 at Fort Barrancus, Pensacola, Fl. Macfadden Hodge, Penelopy's brother enlisted with him. Macfadden died at the Fort. I can't find Thomas in 1870, but in 1880 he is in Vernon Parish La. I think that the Margaret on that census may be Penelopy's daughter because in Thomas's application for his wartime pension he stated that Margaret was born in 1863. (VR) He was married to Jane MILLER. (4) Children were: Maggie HALL, Melissa HALL, William M. HALL, Thomas M. HALL, Franklin HALL. He was married to Artimisha LEWIS .(4) Children were: Charlie Calvin HALL, James Allen HALL. Children were: Delanie Bertran HALL. He was married to Ellen Pauline DRISKELL.(4) He was married to Penelopy HODGE. More on the subject. Miles E. Hodge born 1806-07, after his fathers death married Elizabeth who was previously married to James A. Harvin. They had three known children, dudley E., Martha Angelina, and Miles E. I do not know if it is possible that this Miles E. had a second family. I do not think so but would have to do more digging. This is true, but..... John Miles (son of Benjamin-I have never seen "M" as a middle initial) died in 1806 leaving a wife Nancy and three sons, Benj. D., John M and Miles E. These 3 sons are accounted for and followed for quite some time in the Sumter area. I know that we are in the correct family. We just have not yet found the correct parent. Here is more of the information I received 20 years ago from (I believe) Johnnie Louise Kight: Will of William F. Hodge THE STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF FAYETTE In the name of God Amen. I William F. Hodge of the County and State aforesaid being weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory, do make, ordain and establish this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and annulling all other wills by me heretofore at any time made and relying upon Divine Mercy I resign my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust. After the payment of all my just debts, I will and bequeath all my preperty, real, personal or mixed whether in expectancy or in possession to my three sons, John M. Hodge, William N. Hodge and Robert A. Hodge of the said State of Texas. That is all that shall be left after defraying the expenses of the Executorship. And I hereby apppoint my eldest son John M. Hodge Executor of my will and my friend Isaac B. McFarland as counsellor and adviser to this my Executor, and I hereby cloth my said son John M. Hodge sole Executor of my will with all the powers hereafter conferred on him.
