Tammy - It seems as though I recall seeing Marquis Lafayette Hodges on the Civil War records, maybe from Mississippi? Also, seems like he may have died during the conflict. From Judy Caufield (cauf@teleport.com) she says known children of her 3rd Great Grandfather, Jesse Monroe Hodges, who was married to Catherine STANLEY 25 Dec 1812 in either NC or SC were as follows: Charles b. 1819 Indiana Alexander b. 1821 Indiana Drury Robertson, b. 1823 Indiana Jane, b. 1827 Indiana Calloway, b. 1829 Indiana Harrison, b. 1832, Indiana Monroe, b. 1833 Ohio Elizabeth, b. 1836 Ohio She further says they moved to Missouri about 1839 and went to Oregon on the Oregon Trail in 1847. Parents of Jesse Monroe Hodges were Thomas and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). The obituary of Elizabeth stated that she was the youngest of 12 children. She does not know the children. DOES ANYONE? I hope that you will read my tale of woe here and be able to help me. I have hit the brick wall with my Hodge(s) family but I suspect that Jesse's Hodges who was married to Elizabeth Collins in Tennessee could be my line but I have no proof. In looking at Jesse and Elizabeth on the Mormon DB, I see that amongst other children they have sons Marcus, Harvey and Josiah. Josiah married Mary Wilson and also had a son that he named Marquis DeLafayette Hodges. My Marcus L.(Marquis?) Hodge can be found with his brother Harvey and mother Mary in Lawrence Co. KY in the 1850 census. These I suspect are the same wife and son(s) of Josiah. The dates for Mary (b. 1786)match perfectly with the Mormon and Marcus is off by about 3 years from the census info (1825 vs 1828). However the DOD on Mary doesn't fit and the marriage of Marquis to Susan Tarbottom doesn't fit. My Marcus married Elizabeth Frasher from Wayne Co. WVA. Could they be one and the same Jesse/Josiah/Marcus(Marquis)? My Marcus! was a carpenter and the skills were passed generation to generation. My Marcus also named his sons Marcus and Harvey (not to mention Noah, my line). I know that there are plenty of folks out there descended from Jesse Hodges and Elizabeth Collins so maybe you know what happened to their grandson Marquis. Any info is appreciated. Tammy

We think that we have traced our Hodge(s) family to Pulaski and Dooly Counties in Georgia. The Mother may have been Milly Hodge(s), with sons William (Bill, Billie) in Dooly Co 1850 census, Elisha, Peter and John in Pulaski Co 1850 census. Not even a hint of a husband for Milly at this point. She seems to be listed as Milly Hodge in the 1830 and M. Hodge in the 1840. They all end up in Alachua Co, FL by 1860. Does anyone know anything about this family? Thanks, Jim Jim Powell Jr Ancient Records Coordinator & Webmaster Alachua County Clerk of the Court Http://clkres17.co.alachua.fl.us/archive/default.cfm
