Hi Jim and Jan, I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about the Hodge family you're looking for - only a little (and not NEARLY enough) about the Hodge family of South Alabama and North Florida (who came out of South Carolina). Good luck in your search. Carolyn Good advise about taking time off..just got back from vacation...Maybe Ive ask you before..and if I have please excuse an Old Man(66)..but do you have or read any thing on a Joshua Hodge born in 1852 and married an Emma shields..They were supposed to have came out of cabin creek area in Mason County KY and moved over to Adams County Ohio..they had three chrildren...Willis.Charles and Albert Hodge..I have our line of the family from Joshua this way(to present) but nothing about where he was born where he was married who his parents were..the one and only little bit of info I have on him comes from his obit in 1918..which said he had a sister named Janet Patton living in West Union Ohio which is in Adams County...May God richly bless you and yours...Jim and Jan Hodge Scioto County Ohio
Nancy I don't have anything on your hodge..have you ran across a Joshua hodge born 1852 and married an Emma Shields who was also born in 1852...Jim and Jan hodge of Scioto County Ohio
Barbara, No problem. I've just returned from San Antonio, Texas (2:00 a.m. Monday morning) and have been sifting through about 300 e-mails since Monday afternoon. What a great idea with the cookbook! Take your time. I'm really getting frustrated that I don't seem to be making any progress with the Hodge family. The best thing to do when that happens (I've found for me) is to take a couple of weeks off from that family. Then when I go back, it's all fresh again and I have a more optimistic approach. Maybe Benjamin's will will provide a key to the Hodge mystery (see, I'm being optimistic already). Hi, this is just a quick note to let you know I haven't forgotten about sending you a copy of Benjamin Hodge's will. I have been so bogged down the last few weeks, I can hardly think. Had a wedding shower to go to last Saturday and I was giving the bride a "family cookbook" - bought a blank cookbook and filled it with family recipes. I wrote recipes every spare moment for over a month. Boy, was I glad when they had the shower. Then, Sunday night my granddaughter came to spend her Spring Break with me. She lives in Waco and I don't see her much. I think she's leaving this weekend, so I promise to get that will out to you early next week. Sorry for the delay. Hi Barbara, This family did come from SC, and there are TONS of James in it, but unfortunately, I don't know the children's names of most of them. The only Samuels I found in the data were 1) the son of Bithel of SC (& grandson of Abraham b. NC d. SC) and 2) the son of John III of NC (grandson of John Jr. of NC). The information I have about the Hodge family (other than the descendants of Miles of AL) came from various websites - there are at least three - Faye Dyes, Bob Stith and Bonny Lacey (I hope I spelled those correctly - I'm quoting from memory). I've found a lot of conflicting info on these sites, but a lot of it matches, also. What I'm primarily looking for on these websites are wills, deeds, newspaper articles, quotes from books, anything that can provide me with something other than an opinion. It's easy to get lost (confused) with this family because there are SO MANY people named James, John, Benjamin and Miles! By the way, has anyone noticed that there seems to be a parallel universe of Hodges in New England and in the South? Going through will abstracts in Ancestry.com, I noticed that in 1700s New England, there were tons of people named James, John and Benjamin Hodge. Just wondered if the S.C. Hodge family that Carolyn Hodge had information on could be the Fairfield district line of Samuel Hodge (abt 1750-1825), son James, (1773-1825), grandson Andrew (1801-1855)?
Posted on: HODGE Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/h/o/HODGE/queries/21 Surname: ------------------------- Yes! Miles Hodge had a daughter, Penelope, born 1835 in Alabama. Her mother was Frances Wheeler. Miles was born 1804 in South Carolina. Frances was born 1814 in South Carolina. The remainder of information I have about them is sketchy. I know Miles lived in Covington Co., AL in 1850, because that's where my husband's ancestor (and Penelope's brother) was born - William Washington Hodge. I THINK Miles moved to Northwest Florida by 1860, but I haven't been able to prove it's the same Miles yet. If you have any more information about this family, I would love to have it. I have lots of information about a Hodge family in South Carolina (but I don't know how my Miles ties into it yet), and I have lots of information about the descendants of William Washington Hodge. If you're interested in any of that, I'll be happy to share. The South Carolina Hodge family has LOTS of people named Miles, Benjamin, James and John, so it has been really hard sorting through them.
