William Hocking, a native of Cornwall, England, set a charge in the bottom of the shaft and was hoisted away. The bail on the bucket broke within forty feet of the surface dropping him 130'. I believe this may be my g grandfather (b Tywardreath 1852) who was an unemployed tin miner who left his family around 1875 in Tywardreath Cornwall in search of mining work, leaving a wife and two young sons, never to return.
