Found your message and we're tracing the Hockings too: my Mum more than myself. They're our ancestors (indirectly). I'll point Mumsy in the direction of this site where she can give some more details as she has them to hand, but my maternal great-grandmother (mother's mother's father's mother) was Ninny Eliza Hocking. Will be back in touch later - boss just came back!

    3. Can anyone help with any info or ideas on following up this extract taken from Rootsweb's newspaper extracts : Name: HOCKING, William. Date: 06 Mar. 1878 Paper: NV: Humboldt Co: Silver State Page 3:3 Topics: ACCIDENTS. Mine. DEATHS. Tuscarora; Body: ACCIDENT AT TUSCARORA. A Miner Killed In The Hornet Shaft. William Hocking, a native of Cornwall, England, set a charge in the bottom of the shaft and was hoisted away. The bail on the bucket broke within forty feet of the surface dropping him 130'. I believe this may be my g grandfather (b Tywardreath 1852) who was an unemployed tin miner who left his family around 1875 in Tywardreath Cornwall in search of mining work, leaving a wife and two young sons, never to return. Appreciate contact from anyone with any ideas or information, especially where his grave might be. Roger Hocking.

I have a small book of poems written by Helen Miller Hocking. She was a neighbor of my grandmother's in Riverside CA. This book was autographed by Helen to my grandmother in 1944. There is a very nice picture of Helen as a young woman in the front of the book. I also have a couple of pictures of her taken with my grandmother. These were probably taken in 1945-46. I would like to find her descendants and share this book with it's rightful owner. Hoping to hear from someone. Lynne

    3. Hello: This is my first request for help. I am looking for confirmation of the birth of BENJAMIN HOCKING, son of Benjamin Hocking and for a location of where they came from in Cornwall. I have found the LDS record of a Benjamin Hocking born July 4, 1864 in Camborne, Cornwall, but the family have the date of birth for our Benjamin as October 22, 1864. I did question if the birth date could have been July 4th, and the christening date October, but the family information is that he was born in October. Benjamin came to America when he was 19, which would have been around 1883. Is there anyone who is able to help me locate the Benjamin born October 22, 1864 somewhere in Cornwall? If so, it will be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time. Celia wlteats@ptd.net
