Perhaps you can help me clear up a mystery. My great grandfather was Rueben Martin Hitt who married Emma Hughes in Webster County, MS. Sometime around 1893 when my grandmother, Carrie Fletcher Hitt, was an infant the family moved to Texas in an effort to improve Emma's health. They settled somewhere around New Braunfels. In 1899 when Emma's health did not improve, the family returned to MS. My guess is they went to Texas because relatives had settled there, but I have never been able to find a connection.
