Thank you for your message. William "Billy" Hitt was the son of Joseph Hitt, Jr. (unknown wife). Joseph Hitt Jr. was the son of Joseph and Mary (Coons) Hitt, Sr. Joseph, Sr. was the son of Peter Hitt the 1714 immigrant to Germanna in the Virginia Colony. The following is from my Hitt data base: 1. William "Billy" HITT[1] was born about 1786 in Culpeper County, Virginia and he died on 1 Nov 1865. William is believed to have served in the War of 1812 and that his widow Polly applied for a pension based upon her husband's service. (War of 1812: Virginia; Bounty Land and Pension Applicants; by Patrick G. Wardell; Heritage Books; p. 203). The will of Joseph Hitt, Jr., identifies William as a son and heir (Will Book K, page 228, Culpeper County, Virginia, written 2 November 1825, proved 21 February 1826). William Hitt was a farmer. The marriage of William and Polly Aylor can be found in Madison County, Virginia, Marriage Book 1, page 262. The family can be found in the 1850 and 1860 Census for Culpeper County, Virginia. In the 1850 Census, Martin Aylor age 53 was living with the William Hitt family. It is believed that Martin was a brother of William's wife Mary "Pollie" (Aylor) Hitt. Also a child, Sarah F. Aylor age 7, was living with the family; perhaps a daughter of Martin Aylor. In the 1860 Census, Sarah F. Aylor, age 18, was still living with the William Hitt family. He was married to Mary "Polly" AYLOR (daughter of Jacob AYLOR and Frances MURRAY) on 24 Feb 1814 in Madison County, Virginia.[2,3] Bond was issued 21 February 1814.[2,4] Mary "Polly" AYLOR was born about 1794 in Madison County, Virginia. Marriage Bond record notes that Polly is the daughter of Jacob Aylor. William "Billy" HITT and Mary "Polly" AYLOR had the following children: +2 i. Frances (Margaret) HITT b. 1816/17 m. Hampton Thornhill. +3 ii. Henry Thomas HITT b. 1818 m. Emily Jane Hitt. +4 iii. Charles Morgan HITT b. 1821 m. Eliza Jane Jenkins. +5 iv. William Jacob HITT b. 1827 m. Ellen M. Kilby. +6 v. I have not researched the Kilby's or Aylor's in any depth, so would be interested in any data you would care to share. Earl J. I have a few queries comments >and you will please excuse me not digesting your full database before >corresponding. > >First: You show #22 William Billy Hitt having Martin Aylor age 53 and Sarah >F. Aylor age 7 living with him in 1850. I am almost certain this is the same >Sarah Frances Aylor who married James Polk Kilby in Culpeper County on 31 >December 1868. Her marriage states her age as 25 (Silas Bruce register) so >born ca 1843 which fits. On the 1870 census of Culpeper, she is age 27. Her >marriage license states she was the daughter of Martin and Jane Aylor, born in >Culpeper County. James Polk Kilby was a son of James Franklin Kilby and >Margaret Hudson, born 6 January 1845. They (or perhaps he) subsequently moved >to St. Louis County, MO. They had three children and I am trying to find any >descendants of them. They were raised it seems by their uncle Thomas >Marcellus Kilby, who was also a veteran of the civil war from Culpeper, as was >James P. Kilby. I have more on these people if you are interested. > >Second: Ellen Marie Hitt m. Andrew Jackson Kilby 11 DEC 1862 in Culpeper. He >was a son of Leroy Kilby and Sarah Lee Hill. She was a daughter of William >Hitt and she was born 19 FEB 1838 in Culpeper. > >Third: Della Florence Hitt m. John Thomas Kilby in Culpeper on 19 DEC 1906. >I do not have her parents.
