I don't know that I can help you Eric, but I have a similar problem. My grand mother was Mahulda Cathrine Hitt b. GA, the daughter of Benjamin C. and Elizabeth Morris Hitt. Elizabeth was B. C.'s 2nd Wife. In my case also family legend has it that my grandmother was part Cherokee Indian. Whether this comes through the Hitt or Morris lines I do not know. Benjamin was born in SC abt 1827 the son of James and Mary Mitchell Hitt. James and Mary had the following children: James, Jr., Sarah, Susannah, Thomas, Huldah, Jean, Lenard, Nancy, Rebecca, Elender, George, Benjamin C., Martha, and David all born between 1807 and 1830 in SC. B. C. moved to Cherokee County, GA some time before 1870. Whether this was before or after the death of his first wife, Sarah Ann Frances Swinford in 1864 I do not know. I have just started to work on the Hitt line but will share any information I find.
