    3. I am a 6th g-grandson of the 1714, immigrant Peter Hitt. I descend from his son Peter Hitt Jr., and then his daughter Miriam Hitt (who married Archibald Holtzclaw ). I am also a 7th g-grandson of Hans Jacob Holtzclaw, 1714 immigrant,  and brother inlaw of immigrant Peter Hitt, since both married Otterbach sisters.  I am familiar with both Earl, and J.B. Hitt's databases. I have never met Earl, in person, but I have met J.B. Hitt. J.B. Hitt descends from Joel Hitt, son of Peter Hitt Jr., and brother to my 4th  g-grandmother Miriam Hitt Holtzclaw.  I have attended a few Germanna Reunions. I have also asked the Fauquier County Public library to copy documents for me. They do a great job. My family, Archibald Holtzclaw, and Miriam Hitt Holtzclaw, left Virginia in 1795, for Kentucky. They lived outside of modern day Lexington, Kentucky .  In 1825, my family relocated to Clay County, Missouri, where I still live. I have several Hitt friends/family, that I talk to on facebook. I know my direct lines very well, however I have Hitt friends ( most likely family) from Alabama, Mississippi,  Tennessee, and Arkansas, who are seeking their lines. I am very interested in what you may have?  Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone -------- Original message -------- From: Neal Parker via <hitt@rootsweb.com> Date:07/05/2015 4:17 PM (GMT-06:00) To: "Jeff P." <genealogynuts@sbcglobal.net>, hitt@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HITT] Peter Hitt descendents On 7/5/2015 2:34 PM, Jeff P. via wrote: > As many have tried to do before, I am trying to map the descendents from > Peter Hitt the immigrant, at least the first 4 or 5 generations. Benjamin Hitt, who came to Laurens Co, South Carolina as a child from Virginia, probably Fauquier Co., and then moved onward to Alabama and Mississippi. Several years ago I made an extensive study of the Hitts in South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. I also looked carefully at the earlier Hitts in Virginia. The results of that research is online in WorldConnect (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/) in the database 'hnparker'. I have the good fortune to live in Houston, Texas, where I have access to a good genealogical library, which has, inter alia, abstracts of early public records from many Virginia counties. I have made extensive use of facsimile copies of Virginia records obtainable from the collection of the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City. I can view them on microfilm at the genealogical library that I mentioned. Hence, I have been able to do extensive research without the expense of a trip to Virginia, although I have been at Germanna. I suspect that the Peter Hitt who lived in Licking Co., Ohio is a brother of William Russell Hitt, who married Mahala Gladstone in Fauquier Co. 2 Apr 1832 and who subsequently moved to Perry Co., Ohio. They lived in Thorn Township, which is in the NW corner of the county close to Licking Co. See my database. Another database in WorldConnect with information on many descendants of the immigrant Peter Hitt (many more than in my database) is 'hitthaynie' created by Earl J. Hitt. Use it with caution because it contains obvious errors which Earl J. Hitt has refused to acknowledge and correct. These are in addition to the conjectures and suppositions which are in all such databases and which may or may not be correct. Another large Hitt database in WorldConnect is 'jbh'. All that I have can be seen in my database on WorldConnect. I have recently updated it to reflect some work that Jeff Phillips and I have done. I now think that William Russell Hitt and Garrett T. Hitt, who were already in my database, are brothers of the Peter Hitt that is an ancestor of Jeff and that their father is William Hitt, who is probably a son of John Hitt, son of the immigrant. Most of what I have is a result of my own research. Some, however, is taken from Earl Hitt's database. Miriam Hitt and Archibald Holtzclaw fall into the latter category. Earl's database has about 10 times more Hitts than mine.
