Mary, The book reference is interesting, however, I suggest that you investigate further before assuming that it is correct. This possible link of a Leanor Hitt to the family of Peter Hitt the 1714 immigrant has been raised on many occasions in the past. A couple of researchers believe that Leanor may have been a HILT. Some researchers, especially Proudfoot researchers, have investigated the possible link of an Leanor Hitt to the Peter Hitt family but none, to my knowledge, has ever been able to prove such a link. The most interesting part of the reference is the reference to "Mrs. Proudfoot's uncles, John and Peter Hitt, soldiers in the revolution." Why are uncles named and not her father. In 1992 while researching the work of Jesse Martin Hitt, an early Hitt researcher now deceased, I found the following note, on some old Genealogy Tables attributed to Jesse Martin, which addressed the subject of Leanor Hitt: "Mr. Hitt - State Librarian collected Hitt material. He may have compiled a book. I never connected my Leanner Hitt who married John Proudfoot. s/ Myrtle Ledrow Emberson, Los Angeles, 1937 - June." The referenced Genealogy Tables are in the Public Library of the City of Los Angeles; title page "Peter Hitt of Virginia." I would be interested if the book you referenced also included source for the material it published. And, I hope you are able to prove the link, as it would resolve a controversy that has gone on for many years. Earl J. Hitt -----Original Message----- From: Mary E.
