Firstly, I do census research once a week at a branch of the National Archives. There are only about 12 of them in the country. How people get at census records unless they live near a branch, I don't know. Some libraries carry compiled census records from the very early years, or from the area served by that library. Most genealogical libraries have the indexes for the early years (1790-1850). I am fairly certain one can rent census films through a local LDS (Mormon) Family History Center. Concerning your husband's Hitt line, why don't you tell me what you know about his earliest Hitt ancestor...where he/she lived, when, name of spouse, etc. Maybe I can help you get a good start. Try and give me info from 1920 or before. The 1920 census is the most recent anyone has access to. Judith
