    1. My SC James HITTS
    2. Rhita Wood Reynolds
    3. Hello: This is my first post to the HITT list but I have seen some things in the past few days that makes me pause and share my information on my HITT line in SC. Here goes: I Rhita Louise WOOD - me II Richard Perry WOOD and Viola Letha SUTTLES III Edwin Urias WOOD and Ethel Mae HITT (Ethel born 22 Feb 1891 - Toccoa, Stephens Co., GA died 1 Nov 1976 - Greenville Co., SC) IV George Riley HITT and Margaret Ann YOUNG (G. R. born 11 Sept 1874 in Pickens Co., SC died 5 Oct 1942 - Greenville Co., SC) V James (Madison or Monroe HITT) and Margaret Ann HUNT (James born 4 July 1851 - born probably Pickens Co., SC died 29 Sept 1927 - Greenville Co., SC/controversy over middle name) Children: James Monroe HITT, Jr. George Riley HITT Sarah J. HITT Emma A. HITT Nora M. HITT Maggie A. HITT Ellen E. HITT Lula M. HITT Vesta Buena HITT Nellie Gertrude HITT VI James (Allen) HITT and (1) Sarah (GUNTER or McDANIEL) (b. abt 1824 in SC/death unknown/served in the 16th SCVI) James' son, Tyra Allen HITT's death certificate gives his father's name as James Allen HITT. Children: William F. HITT James (Madison or Monroe) HITT James (Allen) HITT and (2) Elender DUNCAN Elender (1824 - 1901) Children: John Thomas HITT Children: John Allen Feddie (not Freddie!) Betty Zanie Hanie Tyra William Arthur George Kannon Ellie Mary Florence George R. HITT Frank HITT Tyra Allen HITT (never married) Earl - this is where Elender DUNCAN comes in! I have not been able to get past James (Allen) HITT. He is thought to be the son of William HITT and his wife Haney UNKNOWN who lived in Greenville Co., SC. They had a son, George Robert HITT, who moved to Toccoa, Stephens Co., GA and operated a mill there. In fact, my great-grandfather had gone to work there as a stonemason in 1901 when my grandmother was born. It is believed that this William HITT (born abt 1782 in SC) was the son of Peter HITT of Greenville Co., SC. William and Haney's other children included a Margaret and a Wiley. They also had a grandaughter living with them in the 1850 census named Julia HITT. As you can see, there are a lot of reoccuring family names: James, Allen, Tyra, George, William, Haney... Sigh! Well this is my problem family line. If anyone is familiar with it, I would love to hear from you. I have a lot of SC HITT Family research - just not much by way of connection. Thanks a lot.
