Judith, thank you so much for this information. This does appear to be right on point for the person and line I want to search. Aubrey Newton Hitt was/is my husband's grandfather. I believe he is still alive -- his wife died several years ago. The family has been estranged for over 25 years, and my husband has asked me not to contact him. (What a thing to say to a genealogist!) My father's husband, Joe Stephen Hitt, died in 1974, and we're in PA while the Hitts are in Texas, so there is really no easy way for me to get the information. I appreciate your kindness tremendously. Thank you again. In recent postings to the list, I have noticed the frequent use of the name "Newton" as a middle name. In fact, it is my husband's middle name as well. There must have been some family member with that name, who everyone else is named after. Does anyone know who it is? Is there a story behind it? Will keep on trying. ==== HITT Mailing List ==== Visit the Hitt List Web Site! http://www.rootsweb.com/~daisy/hitt.htm ---------- > From: Wayne & Georgann Hunter <whunter@silcom.com> > To: HITT-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Hitt family > Date: Friday, February 27, 1998 2:11 AM > > Would your Thomas be the son to > > Check out this information and let me know. > > Descendants of William Newton Hitt > > 1 [1] William Newton Hitt > b: 1837 in Unknown > d: Unknown in Unknown > .. +Sarah Norman > b: Abt. 1842 in SC > d: Unknown in Unknown > m: Abt. 1757 in Unknown > > .........2 William Henry Hitt b: Abt. 1864 > > .........2 James Robert Hitt b: Mar 1866 in AR > d: Feb 03, 1945 in Lockney, Floyd CO, TX > ............+Mary Caroline Rigdon > b: Jun 06, 1876 in Holland, Bell CO, TX > d: Unknown in Lockney, Floyd CO, TX > m: 1893 in Rosebud, Falls CO, TX > > .........2 Mark Hitt b: Abt. 1868 > > .........2 Joseph Jackson Hitt b: Jun 1870 > > *2nd Wife of [1] William Newton Hitt: > ..+Mariah "Mary" Meridith > b: Unknown in Unknown > d: Unknown in Unknown > m: Bef. 1879 in Unknown > > .........2 General Hood Hitt > b: Abt. 1879 in Unknown > d: Unknown in Unknown > > .........2 Thomas Jefferson Hitt > b: Abt. 1881 in Unknown > d: Unknown in Unknown > > .........2 Sarah Ann Hitt > b: 1881 in AR > d: Unknown in Unknown > > .........2 Lee Hitt > b: 1889 in AR > d: Unknown in Unknown > > Hope you see something that will connect us. > > Georgann > whunter@silcom.com > > > > At 11:48 AM 2/7/98 -0600, you wrote: > >Betty, > > > >I have only one Woodrow Hitt in my data base that seems to fit your family, > >it is as follows: > > > >--------------------------------------------------------------------------- - > >--- > >1.
