    1. Hitt vs Heite
    2. Earl J. Hitt
    3. Jim, There is no proof that Peter Heite is actually the Peter Hitt who immigrated to Virginia in 1717. There is only the "possibility" and/or the "suggestion" by B. C. Holtzclaw that the two men are one and the same; absolutely NO PROOF. The will date is for Peter Hitt. Peter Heite did marry Maria Liessbeth Freudenberg in 1707 and that is the last record that exists for this couple. There is no record of children, no record of deaths, and no record that Heite ever changed his name to Hitt. We do know that Peter HITT was married a woman named Elizabeth (no surname) and that she was the mother of Peter's children. There is no record of Peter Hitt marrying Elizabeth Otterback/Utterbach, there is only the "suggestions" made by B. C. Holtzclaw in Germanna Record No. 5. The Peter Hitt family has always spelled their name HITT, there are no instances of his ever spelling his name Heite (pronounced like: High-Tee in German). There is additional information about the above controversy at my web site: http://www.geocities.com/heartland/prairie/3596/ I envite you to visit, read and/or copy the information. Earl J. Hitt
