    2. Earl, Re: your post showing Peter Hitt 1,1,7 on the 1785 Halifax census as son of Henry and Alice Holtzclaw Hitt. Who is the other adult Peter Hitt listed 8,1,5 on the same census about 10 houses away, also near the family of Harmon Miller the brother in law of Henry & Alice Holtzclaw Hitt? One Peter Hitt was is on the 1784 Caswell Co NC census beside William Stanfield who you say is the father of Jane Stanfield, one wife of Peter Hitt. Until 1777 Orange Co NC extened to the VA state line and included Caswell(split off Person Co), just below Halifax Co VA. Thanks, Charles Hite Halifax County, Va. He died about 1836 in Greenville County, South Carolina. On 15 June 1784, Peter deeded 140 acres in Halifax County VA to George Wiley (Halifax County, Virginia Deed Book 13, p. 207). Peter appears in the first U.S. Census of 1785 in Halifax County, Virginia as follows: Peter Hitt, 1-person, 1-dwelling, 7-other buildings. Peter would have been 22 at the time and single.----->>
