This message forwarded by the listowner. For those of you aware of C|Net Central.... Stephanie Berger, a producer for their subsidiary show The Web, kindly let me know that this weekend they'll be running a show with a section on genealogy...she said that they tried to include as many sites as they could.... You can check it out, and the time it's on by you, at http://www.cnet.com/Content/Tv/Studio/Preview/ Unfortunately, it only runs on the Sci Fi Channel, so if you don't get that, you won't be able to see it. However, we'll post a transcript of what they said about USGW after it's over.<G> megan -- Megan Zurawicz, National Coordinator USGenWeb pigolit@ix.netcom.com * cochonnet@aol.com

Can someone tell me how the Hitt's of Charlotte are related to Peter Hitt, the immigrant? I have nothing on this line. Gordon
Hi June - I'm just getting started on my mother's side - Hitt & I came across subject message. I just happen to have a Elizabeth Ann Hitt married to a William Lucas. Her parents were: William Hitt & Mary Aylor. I had their children's birthday, except for Elizabeth Ann. Her date of birth fit right in line with the other's. In fact I didn't have to change the list sequence, so I know that I must have the right one. Thanks for your help I have quite abit of notes on her father, William. He served in the War of 1812. I haven't found him in the Virginia Federal Census, yet. But he should be in the 1850 & 1860 Census. Thanks for your help. Elmer

Hello again, Earl and Hitt-L listmates! Regarding the "History of Barbour Co., WV" book, it does not list sources. The book was written in 1899 by Hu Maxwell. He wrote similar books on other counties in WV. The family history sections, especially, cannot be relied upon because they were submitted by the families themselves. As you know, people's memories are not always the best, and official records were not kept in many cases. I suspect that much of the information in the "Family Histories" section is things that had been handed down orally by the submitters' parents and other relatives. However, in searching for other (non-Hitt) relatives, I have used these books to point me in the right direction. I was unaware of the controversy, but just thought it interesting to find the Hitt family name in this book. ---------- > From: Earl J.
