    1. Aldridge Hitt
    2. Granny Goose
    3. This is a correction of information that I previously posted to this list concerning the burial site of Aldridge Hitt, son of Peter Hitt and Lucinda O. Rosser. My previous info was from the cemetary records of the Tazewell County, Illinois, Genealogical and Historical Society. Having now visited, photographed and rubbed the stone in Gaines Cemetary, Little Mackinaw Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, I can tell you that the stone in fact reads: Aldridge Hitt 1802-1896 Catherine Allensworth His Wife 1812-1888 There are several Allensworths among the early settlers of Tazewell Co., Illinois, but their relationship to Catherine is unclear. Evidence from census data and secondary sources in Tazewell Co., Illinois shows that the Allensworths were Virginians who spent at least 12 years in the vicinity of Muhlenberg and Todd Counties, Kentucky, and Montgomery County, Tennessee before moving on to Illinois. It would appear to be most probable that the marriage of Aldridge Hitt and Catherine Hitt occurred in that area. The Automated Archives CD-ROM collection lists the following marriages in Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky: 9 Nov. 1819 James S.B. ALLENSWORTH to Catherine YOUNG 12 July 1839 Elizabeth HITT to John DOBBS 18 Aug. 1858 William H. HITT to Martha J.ALLEN 17 Dec. 1894 Martha Jane HITT to Burly HACKNEY Now, James S.B. Allensworth was one of the first settlers of Little Mackinaw Township in Tazewell County, Illinois in 1831, but I have no idea who these Hitts are. Since I have never done any research in Kentucky or Tennesee and know almost nothing about the states, I would like to correspond with anybody who knows anything about that area. I have written one and am including it here for those who don't want to take the time to write one. You may use mine if you want. Print it and use it if you want. You must add your name and address at the bottom of the page. Please invest the time and the 32 cents for the stamp and hopefully we can put these leeches out of business once and for all. If that postmaster is deluged with complaints perhaps something will happen. You also have my permission to forward this Email to all of your surname lists and genealogy friends as a warning about the book AND a plea to write letters to the postmaster in Bath, Ohio. The Letter is attached. If you want to add to it, fine. As far as I know Halberts have been working out of Bath, Ohio for more than 30 years. The books they sell are nothing but a generic history of the BOYD name (or whatever name) with thousands of telephone listings thrown in. I have a copy in my hands right now and I am telling you they are worthless to the genealogist and to the common person. There is no data in the book that you cannot find in a library or phone book in a few short minutes. These people have been operating out of Bath, Ohio for years and you know it. I'll bet you have had hundreds (perhaps thousands) of complaints about Halberts and this person named Leroy C. Boyd in the past. I'll bet Leroy Boyd does not even exist. These people have been leeching money from unsuspecting family oriented roots seeking people for years, even decades and it is time to stop them. Do you have any connection with this company (Halberts) or with Leroy C. Boyd with address of: 3687 Ira Road, Bath, Ohio? I appreciate your honesty. 3. The only information that I have on Catherine Pamphligra Hitt is from an old DAR listing, the accuracy of which I am not sure of: Mrs. Martha Cable Marenus. DAR ID Number: 32009 Born in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Wife of Howard B. Marenus Descendant of Rev. John Eells, Moses Comstock Eells and Michael Goodrich, all of Connecticut; William Holiday, of New York. Daughter of Hobart M. Cable and Mary Goodrich, his wife; Orson Jacot Eells and Martha Strong, his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Stephen Goodrich and Mary Wood, his 2nd wife; Jacot Eells and Mary Holiday, his wife. Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Michael Goodrich and Martha Hollister, his 2nd wife; Moses Comstock Eells and Abigail Reed, his wife; William Holiday and Catherine Pamphligra Hitt, his wife. -------------cut----------------- refer to the DAR listing for the remainder. Catherine is not a descendant of Peter & Elizabeth (???) Hitt, 1714 immigrant to Germanna. Catherine is a descendant of Henry Hitt of Woodbury, Connecticut.
