    3. All of Rootsweb has been hit by these spammers. I apologize and they have been reported to the FTC. Please do not re-send their messages to this list. We have all seen them. I will be making this list a closed list, that means that only people that are subscribed to the list are able to post to it. That isn't always the answer, as some notorious spammers, such as the last one, actually subscribed to the list, then post their spam. FTC (Federal Trade Commission) now has the special address where you can forward any spam whether it is get rich quick scheme or dirty/porn spam. The address is uce@ftc.gov. They issued warnings to more than 1,000 spammers few days ago that they are attracting the law enforcement now. 3. Betty, I have only one Woodrow Hitt in my data base that seems to fit your family, it is as follows: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- 1. Thomas Jefferson HITT1,2 was born about 1881 in Clay County, Arkansas. Thomas Jefferson married Sudie OWENS who was born in Senath, Pemiscot County, Missouri. Thomas Jefferson HITT and Sudie OWENS had the following children: 2 i. Grover HITT. 3 ii. Carl HITT. 4 iii. Elvin HITT. 5 iv. Liddy HITT. 6 v. Thelma HITT. 7 vi. Woodrow HITT. SOURCES 1. Maurice Darnell Hitt. Peter Lebeus Hitt. 2. Beatrice Myers & Vada Phillips. Hitt Highlights, Supplement to Benjamin Hitt & Nancy Curnal, their Antecedents and Descendants. June 1987. ----------------------------------------------------End Notes As you can see I have no vitals on this Woodrow Hitt. And you are right this Woodrow descends from Peter Hitt, the 1714 immigrant to Germanna in the Virginia colony. I hope the above is helpful. If I can be of further assistance, please advise. Earl J. 3. Subj: John Hitt Date: 98-01-17 From: emcraw@azstarnet.com (Ellen M. Crawford) Reply-to: emcraw@azstarnet.com To: HITT-L@rootsweb.com I have proof of my husband's Hitt family back to and including John Hitt born about 1759 VA died 1839 Cape Girardeau MO 1839. He married Frances (Frankie) Banks who was born 1763 VA and died 1852 in Cape Girardeau MO. I have been told he was a son of Henry Hitt and Alice Katherine Holtzclaw. I am fairly new to Hitt research and wonder if anyone has more info on this family? Thanks. Ellen emcraw@azstarnet.com Ellen, My Stanley Hite, and his brother Isaac lived on the Dan River in Halifax Co VA in 1782. Henry Hitt and wife Alice Holtzclaw lived within 2miles, also on the Dan River, along with Harmon Miller wife also Holtzclaw(Elizabeth). About 1805 Isaac Hite moved to MO. Everyone says Henry Hitt moved to Laurens SC and died there about 1790, but no legal will or census record has been found. Do tell me more about Frances Banks, because there was a Richard BLanks 1780 nearby in VA. Also John Lawson sold land to Henry Hitt. The TALLEY family from Halifax VA was also in Cape Girardeau MO, by 1870. Charles Hite Subj: Re: Hitt- Girar. MO Date: 98-01-19 From: emcraw@azstarnet.com (Ellen M. Crawford) To Charles Hite Last Oct I was at the Salt Lake City LDS Library and found a book "The Cox-Bates Family and Related Families" by Ruby Cox Eddleman, 927.273C739e. In it she states that Frances Banks was a daughter of Gerrard Banks and Frances Bruce. I was also given this info by a member of the Randol family. -I don't know where they got that information. Mary Katherine Hitt married John Randol in Cape Girardeau. -Frankie Banks was living with this family in the 1850 Cape Girardeau census. There is a little more on the Banks family. Those are the only clues I have at this time. According to all I find John and Frankie Banks Hitt moved to SC, then GA and then to MO. Mary Katherine Hitt Randol gives her place of birth as GA in the 1850 census. Mainly I am just trying to gather all the info I can. I am very glad to hear from you and hope to hear from you again. How does your family fit in? Ellen Reply- emcraw@azstarnet.com This data from my great Uncle Louis Hite:---Subj: Hite Date: 97-06-17 From: Lou_Hite@prodigy.com To: White81429@aol.com Charles Just got back from Texas for a week. Have Family Tree Maker Files and will check any names you are interested in that I can find there. Did note that John Hitt son of Henry Hitt and Alice Katherine Holtzclaw married Frances Banks in 1782 in Halifax County VA. Harmon Miller married to Frances Roberts died in 1814 in Randolph County N. C. -Also have Harmon Miller and Elizabeth Holtzclaw. Louis
