NAN, My grandmother was Helen Strude Hinds. The line that I have with factual or fairly reasonable documentation to support is as follows: Helen Strude Hinds (12/15/1875 - 8/2/1962) William Singleton Hinds (1/26/1828 - 1/25/1923) Benjamin Hinds (1788 - 11/30/1829) Levi Monroe Hinds (1767 - 9/11/1842) Joseph Hinds (6/17/1735 - 7/18/1814) The extended line with limited or no documentation: Joseph Hinds (1705 - 1771) James Hinds (Bef. 1680 - Bef 10/26/1731) James Hinds (12/27/1647 - 2/24/1717/18) James Hinds (Bef. 1618 - Bet. 1653/1655) I have also documented the Byram Family from Huldah Byram (wife of William Singleton Hinds) back to the Mayflower Pilgrim, John Alden. I am also looking for documentation supporting relationships to the surnames: Shaw, Mason, Longbotham, Best, Bustard, Fox, Mullins, Allen, Edson, Hayward, Towne, Mitchell, Cooke Alden, Guerin, Childress, Remsden, Howarad, Pew, Farmer, Linsay, Carter, Webster, and Cavness. I am particularly interested in the story of Benjamin Jefferson Hinds and his wife Mary Ann Childress (Polly). The information I have indicates that they were married in Tennessee on 10/17/1809 and then left or followed his family to Alabama where they lived until at least 1828, when William Singleton and his sister Margaret Ann were born. Sometime before or just after their birth, Benjamin moved to Fort Lawrence, AK, near Hot Springs. He died there on Nov. 30, 1829. No record exists to explain whether he went alone or took part or all of his family with him. Records indicate that many of the children lived and died in Arkansas or Texas. A fragment from the 1830 Census (http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ar/washington/census/1830/wash1830.txt) lists as follows: Karyann? Hines w/m under 5 years =1 w/m 05-10 years =1 w/m 10-20 years =2 w/m 15-20 years =2 w/f under 5 years =1 w/f 05-10 years =2 w/f 40-50 years =1 This entry very closely fits the family of Polly Childress Hinds following the death of Benjamin. I would appreciate any information about this family during the period between 1827 and 1840 including verification of Polly's burial at Red Hill Cemetery in Marshall, AL, between 1833 and 1834. I know you just asked a simple question - sorry for the long and complecated answer. Thanks for your interest, Bill
