    3. I also have participated in the y-DNA project with the Hinds family (Currently 37 marker). I believe there to be a misunderstanding of the determination of Native American Heritage. As I understand the y-DNA testing is designed to pick up those traits passed on from the father to son through many generations. If at any time during that period a mother had Native American heritage, it would not show up in the y-DNA test. That is why the y-DNA testing can link those previous generations is (with minor mutations) the same from one generation to the next. When those characteristics tie in with the same family name, the chances of a relationship are much greater. I personally have three and perhaps four different Native American lines in my family (No Comanche that I am aware of). None of that shows up in my y-DNA testing. Surnames: Hinds, Bolton. McAlpine Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EKj.2ACIB/369.1.1.1 Message Board Post: We have an ongoing DNA project on the Hinds family. I am a close relative to Walter Freeman Hinds and a descendant of Joseph Hinds of Mendham, NJ who was born about 1705. My first cousin who took the DNA test for our family matched three other persons whose research showed them to be descendants of the same man. The evidence indicates that we are of English origin. There is no evidence of Native American inheritance. The Boltons can be traced back to England through records although there is no DNA proof. Any Indian blood must be through the McAlpine family. William Wallace Hinds and other family members are buried in Bullard Cemetery in Smith County, Texas. Claud Slaughter Hinds is buried in Flint Cemetery in Smith County. The headstone data is posted on the Smith County Gen web site.Claud must be the brother of your Grandmother. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
