Nathan Bassett=HarrietWillard. Lckhart Willard=Salome Reed. James Reed=Abigail Hinds. GEN. JAMES REED. Born in 1724; died in Fitchburg, Mass., February 13, 1807. He raised a company of volunteers at Fitzwilliam, N. H., upon the tidings of the battle of Lexington, and marched at their head to Medford. He was appointed colonel of a regiment by the New Hampshire provincial assembly on June 1, 1775. He commanded this regiment in the battle of Bunker Hill, and remained with the army in the vicinity of Boston after its command was assumed by Gen. Washington, being posted upon Winter Hill, and upon the reorganization of the forces on January 1, 1776, his regiment was ranked second in the Continental army. He participated in the siege of Boston, and upon the evacuation of the city he accompanied the troops to New York. April 24th his regiment was put into the Third brigade under Gen. Sullivan ordered up the Hudson. He was attacked with fever at Crown Point and lost his sight. On August 9, 1776, and duing his illness he was appointed brigadier-general by the Continental Congress on the recommendation of Gen. Washington. GEN. JAMES REED. ANCESTOR OF CHARLES H. SERGEL.
