Regards Nan 71532.734@compuserve.com =================================== Found at: http://www.mcps.org/ss/5thgrade/crush.pdf PRESTON GUARDS-COMPANY F, ELEVENTH VIRGINIA CAVALRY This cavalry was recruited at Christiansburg early in the spring of 1861, and in May was mustered into service at Lynchburg, after which it proceeded at once to Manassas Junction, where the Confederate army was then concentrating for the purpose of repelling the Federal advance from Washington. It was not engaged in the first battle of Manassas, but was engaged in action at Bull Run the day previous, and on the day of the great battle was engaged in guarding Blackburns Ford. We give a partial list of the officers at the time of leaving Christiansburg, and a complete one as it was at the time of the reorganization of the army in 1862: Folkes, Eusebius, captain, killed at Seven Pines, May 31, 1862. Lyle, Franklin, first lieutenant, resigned near Centerville, Virginia, 1862. Lucas, Charles, second lieutenant. Matthews, John, first sergeant, killed at Boonsboro, Maryland, 1862. Reagan, James, second sergeant, wounded at Seven Pines. Turner, John R., third sergeant. Eakin, Jonathan, fourth sergeant, killed at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863.
