To the listmembers of both Hinds-L and Hinds egroup mail lists: Clif Hinds wrote: >As far as the [email protected], I see no reason to close it if you want it to remain. If you are happy with the search mechanism. I changed my email address with egroups to [email protected] I can have that address in Germany. I will have a little trouble with the list, but I do not have to close it. What do you want?< A Hinds-L member wrote to Clif: Good for you! Who knows what will become of Rootsweb now that they have been purchased by Ancestry.com. Ancestry.com claims that they are going to leave Rootsweb alone but they are so obviously out for money that I fear they will start taking over the operation. A lot of people who have put many hours of volunteer work into Rootsweb projects are very upset about the merger and may have good cause to be so. -------------- SOOOOO- it looks like we will have two lists. I'll stick with Hinds-L now that I'm committed. But I want to offer the members of both lists the chance to post on both without having to belong to both. So, join one list - send the message to that list AND a cc: to me and I will send it to the OTHER list. I'll stay on both lists. Or you can join both lists - your choice. I will NOT be sending my "finds" to Clif's list anymore. No sense overloading both lists when I find Hinds items. But I would suggest that you "do" a search on both lists from time to time. I am going to send another month's worth of Hinds egroup messages to the Hinds-L list because they are not archived anywhere. They came down the pike before Clif requested they be archived. But, I'll give you a couple days rest. Clif has rec'd an offer from Rootsweb to link his egroup to the Rootsweb Genealogy Resources site "which is a well-known compilation of genealogy-related resources that includes mailing lists, newsgroups, Telnet, Gopher, WWW, and email. You can access the mailing list section of the site (over 20,000 entries) at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html" They will send it to a couple of other sites including CyndisList so they can add the information to their web pages and will post the entry to the NEW-GENLIST mailing list to provide additional exposure. . The reason Hinds-L was started after Clif's list was up and going was because the egroup was hard to find and the founder of Hinds-L was not aware of Clif's list.. In actuality, Clif found most of us - through his own Hinds searches. That's how we joined his group. This Rootsweb link should make it easier to find. Feel free to join both lists. I will NOT be sending my "finds" to Clif's list anymore. No sense overloading both lists when I find Hinds items. But I would suggest that you "do" a search on both lists from time to time. Can't remember how to search the archives? Send a message to either list and we'll tell you the steps. Answers to Hinds-L do not have to be done privately - they just may help someone else if they are answered on the list. I'm sure Clif feels the same.
