Does anyone on this list have Hinds that are connected with or visited with family in Tulare Co. CA in the late 1800s? My ancestor, Archibald Yell Hinds, migrated at age 15 with his older brother (abt 21yrs) to Tulare Co. CA from Van Buren, AR which is across the river from Ft. Smith. Archibald Yell's grandfather, John Hinds (d 1838 in Van Buren,Crawford Co. AR) was the nephew of Capt John Hinds of the Rev. War. Regards Nan 71532.734@compuserve.com

    3. According to the California Index to Death Certificates, James L. Hinds was born 17 Feb 1884 in Arkansas and died 18 Feb 1972 in Santa Cruz County, California. His SSN was 462-34-4565. About 75 percent of the time the California Death Certificate Index will also give the mother's maiden name. However, his is not listed. 3. Nan: I believe we have talked about John Hinds of Crawford Co, AR before. If not, there is no known connection between him and my John Hinds, b. 1799 in KY and died after 1880 census in MS. I do suspect there is/was one. I just don't know what it was. Arkansas became a state in 1836. Many of the early settlers were people in Van Buren/Crawford County settled there after traveling up the Arkansas River. Like my John Hinds, I wonder if he might have been a river freighter hauler? Re: Bakersfield. As we have discussed, I have Hinds cousins there now, but they were not there until early 1930's. There are, however, two sons born around 1830-1835 that I have never even identified, let alone know where then went, plus another two born 1861-1865 that I don't know what happened to them. They would, of course have been a bit young to be in California with Mom and Dad still in MS. These two younger sons, born in early to mid 1860's were Marion and John H. Hinds. If any of this connects with anyone, please let me know.
