Hinds was born on Jan. 9, 1844. In July 1867 she went to work as a hired girl for the Hinds family. In September she married George Hinds (b. 1841), and the following August their first child was born. They lived on a farm in Eden, Vt., and had six children. Hinds was very interested in spiritualism. Collection consists of diaries detailing the family's daily work on the farm and in the sugar lot; births, illnesses, and deaths; their social life; and visits with spirit friends. Also included are occasional poems by Hinds written for anniversaries, birthdays, or the new year, summarizing her life and blessings; financial records; and an account of a family quarrel on settling her mother's estate.
