Pg 358: "John Kirby married Elizabeth Hinds Children: Elizabeth b Sept 8, 1646 (HTR)* married David Gage" * = Hartford Town Record -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pg 168P "Clement Chaplin(Chapling) son of William of Semer? Co. Essex, England born ca. 1587 married Sarah Hinds. Moved to Wethersfield. Early member 1Ch (1st Church Record-Nan) Name on Founders Monument. Was a chandler in Burt St. Edmund, Co Suffolk; embrked in the "Elizabeth and Ann" from London Apl 1635, aged 48; freeman Mass. Mch 3, 1635-36; deputy May 1636. An original lproprietor at Hartford and his home lot in 1639-40 was on the E. side of the main st. south of the meeting house (.........) now Central Row. He did not settled here and his allotment of land was declared forfeited Jan 10, 1639-40 & Mr Hopkins, Mr. Wells, Mr Talcott & William Spencer were desired to deal with Mr Chaplin about his lands. He had been treasurer of the colony in 1638, settled in Wethersfield; deputy from there 1643-44. His wife (SARAH HINDS) was dau. of a goldsmith in Burt St. Edmonds. He returned to England after 1646 and his will is in the Registry of Probate London. There he is called of Thretford Co. Norfold Clerk. Gives to his wife Sarah "houses & land lying & being in Hartford & Westhersfield in New England.," Mentions his brother "Mr William Chaplaine of Burt St. Edmonds" & "his kinsman Mr., William Clarke of Roxbury in New England". Proved 1656. His widow sold land in Hartford to Mr Henry Wolcott. --------------------------------------------------------------------
