    3. While searching the North Carolina Archives, I found a reference to a book written by Gail Hinds Bowden about the Hinds Family. I have written to Mrs. Bowden but have gotten no response. I found the book in the Texas State Library and have received a few pages from them. The book was given to the Library by Helen B. Frantz. Mrs Bowden lists her earliest ancestors as Joseph Hinds and wife, Esther, of Anson County, NC. She said that Joseph was the father of at least 10 children, Levi, Simeon, Joseph, a daughter name unknown, Abigail, John, Jane, William, Asa and Samuel. Someone, presumably Mrs. Frants, had scratched through some on the names of the children and had written in others. Her list was Levi, Simeon, Joseph, Abigail, Samuel, a name I cannot read but which may be Charity, Hannah, Ruth, Mary, another name I cannot read and Sarah. Mrs. Bowden said that Joseph Hinds died 2 Jul 1804 in Know County, TN. Both of these lists vary from the list that David Trimble and Kay Lamb included in their books. Samuel, John and Jane are only in the Bowden list. In checking the Genealogy.com archives, I find that there was a Samuel Hinds in Knox County who may have been the son listed by Mrs. Bowden. As we all know, there were a lot of Hinds men named John but Mrs. Bowden's John appears to be a different one. Does anyone have any additional information on this family? Barbara
