Hi: Our local FHC (Family History Center) has the book of which I am pasting parts below. I found the Hinds & Hines because it is indexed and plan to send the Haines,Haynes, Hynds next week when I return to the FHC. The book is divided into states and counties so if there is a certain town or county which interests anyone on this list as to the 1840 pensioners in the town - let me know. This pension was only for people who were not well-off financially. What is this list important? Well, if you find your man on it - you can send for the pension application which tells all kinds of things about him and his military service. if it is a spouse - she needs to show proof of the marriage - primary source!! The list below gives the name of the pensioner (or surviving spouse), his age, and the head of the house in which he is living. I also copied the names of the pensioners in the same town in case allied surnames are mentioned.
